Paul Boyer on Three Moves Ahead Podcast Talking about Galactic Civilizations III

Lead Designer for GC3, Paul Boyer, was on the Three Moves Ahead podcast where the obvious topic of discussion was Galactic Civilizations III.

"In our 2^8 episode, Rob and Troy talk about Galactic Civilizations 3 with lead designer Paul Boyer. Paul explains the goals of the alpha and what early backers can expect at this stage of development as well as future builds. Rob and Troy rattle off a few items from their wishlist and both of them are wrong once again about how fun the ship builder was in GalCiv2"

Well, at least now the ship designer is optional.

Very interesting. Paul is quite good at those podcast things. Managed to keep me attentive for an hour. Looking forward to the game and more podcasts :)

I want to know what to how much smarter the AI will be from galciv2 and will the AI just copy us? That would seem pretty bad if all the races as different as they are, always do what the human does, I don't want to play a AI version of myself since we build ships to counter the enemy.

I feel good having Paul leading the development he seems very creativity. Does anyone know his screen name, I want to give him karma for...because.

Colony management is the bane of most TBS games. I'm very pleased that you guys have made it actually fun and strategic compared to staring at plain never changing colony screens.

looking forward to the new terra forming.

is the tech age thing only apply to weapons? What about going for the best type of research center? But the requirements for late game weapons are perquisites techs that are from different branches, right? Or is it a stiff "you must wait" thing? (i hope its more intuitive than that.?

I thank you kindly. The hour was well spent. :)

The AI will not just be copying from players, it will be learning from them.

Brad is very concerned that the AI be the best AI yet, so we will adjust as needed.

Thanks... I did not know any of that. I don't really know who is who or does what around here. Lol. :-"

Very curious about the AI that learns from players thing. In galciv 2 the AI was above your average 4x game, even if it was bad at a few things.  Really looking forward to what Brad will pull off.

I am still waiting to see a Great 4X AI. I am playing Age Of wonders III now and pretty disapointed by the AI, It received pretty good reviews but I can tell you it really sucks at using its armies strategically and taking advantages of opportunities.

The AI is decent at tactical battles but in the strategical map it acts very weird. It is like it has several action modes, but the programming that choses what mode it is in seems pretty rigid.  Its either camping or Harassing or exploring ( Mostly camping usually )  or sometimes will actually send stacks of doom at you. But what it choses to do seems almost random. At one point I had an AI had a great tactical lead on me and he had superior forces at hand, he could have charged in my lands and caused massive grief. But he just stood there and I had time to build up defenses.

Other times It will just suicide countless units on superior forces.

Maybe you want to suicide to kill some units while killing off outdated units that your paying an upkeep for.  After all in Galciv 2 you had to pay a certain fee per week for each unit, versus just destroying the unit, I might just as well smash it in to something hoping to take something with me.

How can anyone not love designing ships, :cylon: Yor kidding me.....

For the record, the optional nature of the ship builder alone would have sold me on the game.
