Pre-Game Strat

Newb Just Wants to Play

I want to play MP with some guys.  I have played maybe 4 or 5 games onlide.  I am pretty mediocre.  I work BEST when I am in a support role . . .  (actually that is me generally).  I am so jealous of you guys that know all of the ship moves and effects and no how to go in "where angels fear to tread."  But I cannot think fast enough, and the zillion variables in Sins throws me off.  For example, to auto-cast or not auto-cast??  I have seen the really good guide by grimmjew, but it is hard to practise some of those moves in single player, plus I am still a new with chatting ingame!  I can never get that "to teammates" part only correct!!!

What I want is to be able to do is go into a lobby and sign up for "support" and KNOW that that is all that I have to do at the beginning, be it eco, resource or even culture support.  Also, maybe I fist-fvc*ed myself because I only play one race: Advent Loyalists!  I just really like them.  And I like that the Titan's suppress ability is quite strong.  I dunno.  I have a feeling I am not the only one who is intimidated like this.

I also know it is kinda hard to pre-plan because the maps (and where you are) are random.  So if someone like me gets stuck too close to the enemy, then I am hosed.  I suspect that most on the "inside" of the conflict (with some buffer around them) automatically go into a support role.

I just really want to play and know my place . . . like a good citizen.  I am intensely loyal and will fullfill my role until I die.

And yes, I know that most of this can be achieved if I just played more!  I get that.  But I don't have that kind of time.  I may only get to play once or twice a week . . . less if I can bag me a hooker  or some stripper comes home with me (which doesn't happen that often).

Thoughts?

The easiest way to improve is by playing more online. It's rough, but losing is still fun! ^_^ You can't really choose to be in a particular position, so you have to know to play every role. Even if you get stomped, you can find ways to support your team.

For team chat, type "/a" minus the quotation marks. For autocast, generally frigates can be left on autocast, while I prefer to manually cast capital ship abilities. Also, this guide by Raging Amish is old, but gives a good idea of what to expect online.

I haven't played in a while, but I hope I could be of help.
