Apologies is this had already been asked before.
I've got the Galciv3 entry on steam, but when I download it the client weighs about 108 MB and contains only the DirectX and vcredist bits in it. I've cleared the steam cache and tried to refresh everything, but I still can't download the actual game.
Please advise.
Do you have a 64-bit OS? That's what happens when you don't :C
A 64-bit OS is absolutely critical.
Try restarting steam and running it as admin. Ussualy solves most steam issues for me.
My Mavericks is 64-bit, but the virtual machine WinXP I'm running might be not. Silly thing to miss!
Only 64-bit Windows 7 or 8 is supported.
XP isnt supported nor are any Macs
You will need
1) Windows 7 or Windows 8 64-bit (32 bit is NOT SUPPORTED)
2) A DX10 compatible video card
Can someone explain to me why not having a 64bit OS would prevent you from downloading the game? The game not starting or even installing i get, but not downloading?
Steam delivers the appropriate codebase for the OS you are running... and if you are running 32bit Windows XP, there is no such code.
It's also to prevent what happened with CoD Ghosts where people were blindly downloading the entire game, then screaming when the game crashed on launch, and people were trying to figure out why their crashes were happeneing.
