No Combat?

Nothing happens when I engage in combat, it asks me if I want to do combat and then the other  ship just disappears....  Seems really underwhelming.

You sure the enemy 'dissapears?'  Or the battle is resolved fast, and your forces win?

Not sure, it doesn't tell me.  My ship is still there and theirs isn't.  In this day and age there should be some sort of animation or tactical combat  screen or something.

It's in progress. They have something planned that just isn't ready for us to test yet.

There needs to be a formal list somewhere of what items are planned so we have some clue what to comment on.

Yeah some 'battle report' kinda message would be handy to let you know how things went in the auto-resolve battle.

Remember, its an Alpha. This first round is most likely just a "let's see how many computers crash when they attempt to play" concept.

And it is only the first build of the alpha. When they did GC1 and GC2 they put out a new build each week.

I thought the same thing, peeked about the forums and found exactly that. :)

Also the tentative schedule post at the top of the forum, pinned there, tells you roughly when things are going to be implemented!

Well on the "you simply win" point, I also lost a ship when attacking a resting enemy fleet at a planet, so there is already some calculation for the battle although it may be basic.

We will see the details when they get to it ;-) I am looking forward to it.

That isn't a list of things that are planned.  If you go off that list then there is no combat animation that is coming in a future version.  That mini manual post doesn't really tell us anything.

That mini manual post doesn't really tell us anything.

On the contrary. For me, I knew that when I engaged in battle I shouldn't expect to see any battle animations. Therefore I knew my ship or their ship would just disappear. So there was no need for me to create such a thread as this one. Pretty clear from where I'm sitting and at this point (being an alpha I mean) I'm not expecting more than that.

I don't see where it says in the mini manual that we are going to get some sort of battle animation or that that was excluded.

I never said it was in the mini manual. I saw it in a couple of places but the most obvious and easily found one was this thread by Island Dog announcing the release of the Alpha: https://forums.galciv3.com/452675/page/1/#3454779 I figured most people would read that thread as it does give important information...
