OK so far very good a lot of people have already shared most of what i was going to say so ill just say one thing for now.

 

planetary invasion:

with two transport ships and about 3 guardian MK 3s in a fleet (if that effects it)

the plant pop was 5.5 billion and i was attacking with 5 billion men

the advantage on my side was 222 compared to their 22 this is the first thing i think is an error

(i know the invasion mechanics are not all in) but just to say invasion should be by default advantage goes to the defender

also the population that where left 0 seems i had killed everything that lived (who am i Joshua?) really think genocide shouldn't be the default maybe an option  ( lol if taken out of context ) i will test what happens with less men invading.....indeed attacked with 0.8 billion on a plant of 4.6 and got an advantage of 281 to their 16 and killed them all.

Guessing invasions are still under work still i hope his helped

Well, not sure about the design choice here, but if you attack a planet with more men than they have in terms of population, it is obviously you'd wipe the floor with them.

 

Planets are unlikely to have everyone alive fighting for them. At best 10%.

Well maybe... but i tested attacking with 800 million vs the plants 5 billion but for game play it kills the mood i mean how can u be good in the game if taking any planet involves the killing of millions of children, also people are part of the wealth of a planet so it really takes much of the prize away!

 

And while i know this is space combat that may well be different but wars rarely rarely have ever killed 90-100% of a population. Furthermore its hard to call yourself an empire if your genetically "harmonious".

Pretty sure soldiers understand the concept of non-combatants also lol sorry it just bothers me, takes something from the game is the last i will say on it.

Again i think its just in its early stages like advantage thing.
