BIG REMINDER: GalCiv III requires 64-bit

BIG REMINDER: GalCiv III requires 64-bit

The original Galactic Civilizations for OS/2 was somewhat notable in that it was the first commercial 32-bit game.

While there are some games that offer 64-bit editions, most of them also include a 32-bit version.  In the case of GalCiv III, it is natively 64-bit. That means no 32-bit version.  You must have a 64-bit version of Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8 (most people these days do but not everyone).

So before you join up, make sure you actually are running a 64-bit version of Windows.

A Nvidia GeForce 210 is out of the question? I was told it was the equivalent of my suddely-dead GeForce 8600 but I get totally lost with the naming conventions of the cards.

Thta card fully supports DX10.1

I know my core is I5 dual core, but has hyper-threading giving 4 "cores"... game ran fine (except that font problem set-up, which the instructions to get around it worked fine).

Thanks, that's good to know!

Quoting Yarlen, reply 12Currently best estimates for minimum requirements are:

Minimum:

Processor: Quad-Core Processor

Well that's a bummer. I'm pretty sure my i5 is dual core.

Wow! my i5 is quad core! Am I reading this right?

Also, I noticed that it's hyper threading supported, but it's disabled?

How do I enable it? Should I?

I hope this will not lead to a lot of trouble. Freedom from the oppressive 32-bit regime is worth it though! Viva la revolution!

You can't. HT being permanently disabled is the defining "feature" of the i5.

You may want to update this post as I am running 64 bit Vista and searched the GalCiv3 forums before I bought GalCiv3 to see if I could run it and the first result was the post from Frogboy I'm quoting so I bought a piece of software I can't run until I upgrade my OS or get a new PC.

Hey DARCA your graphics needs an upgrade. Ok we have a cobtradiction between brad and yarlen. Froggy said 64 bit wibdows vista while the minimum requirements are windows 7. This isn't the first time a game can be ran below minimum requirements. Can this be cleared up. Also if windows vista 64 bit can run the game evrn if not optimum. How about 64 bit xp. Please try this on a virtusl machine.

No. Windows 7 is the minimum. Brad's comment was before the official minimum requirements were determined and announced.
