First Galactic Civilizations III Gameplay Video

First Galactic Civilizations III Gameplay Video

Check out a full playthrough of the Galactic Civilizations III alpha, edited down to a two-minute narrated video:

Questions? Ask ‘em here. I’d give you the save file for turn one to see if you could beat my time to victory, but a) I’m 100% certain someone could and b) it’s from an older build and won’t load in the build Elite Founders are getting access to on Thursday.

Thursday is GC3 alpha day, everybody! Are you stoked? Because I am stoked.

Also, writing, recording, editing, and cutting your own voiceover is an interesting process. Just sayin’.

Looking great.

Only critique I have is that I don't much care for the shade of grey used for unexplored areas.

Its a Start.  Im disappointed that my new computer won't be set up then. The motherboard i got had 2 bad pins on the CPU  X(

Right now it just looks like a limited gal civ 2 clone.  Good start.

First thing I noticed: they apparently ditched the mobility hit for going through asteroids.

Looks nice. Will be interesting to check it out, but since some of the key gameplay elements are still missing, I wouldn't expect to take up too much time.

Best two minutes of my week so far! It looks like you Stardockians are doing a great job.

Oh how many of my fleets have taken the wrong path. I won't be missing that. ;)

On a similar subject. I found out we get a special thanks in the credits, will that be our real names or screen names? I hope it's our screen names.

Actually, I hope it is our real name, or perhaps <real name> (<screen name>). Otherwise how am I going to convince friends and family that Lucky_Jack is me, when they don't know me as Lucky_Jack when I show them my name in the credit list?

Hmmm, that's not a good sign when your own family won't believe you... ;)

Just remember, it's an "alpha" and think that nothing is taken as being in a finished state and you'll be fine.

And if you think an asteroid field should slow down anything that tries to pass through it (as I do) then be sure to comment about it if you see it happen when you are playing the game.

Hey Han solo went through an asteroid field in his millenium Falcon and got through just fine although the same can't be said about imperial tie fighters XD

Quite true, but the issue is getting the time it takes to get from one side of the field to the other compared to traveling the same distance with no asteroid field present. Even though good old Han made it through he still did so much more slowly than if he had just flown a straight line from point a to point b with no maneuvering involved.

The video louooks great!!!

You guys know that the asteroid belt has about the mass of 1/4 that of mercury not even a small planet in a circle of about 2 or more Au. The asteroids are a few million kilometers apart. Maybe in a young solar system where the gas giant unstable orbit has about 2-10 trillion comets things would be different but in our solar system the spaceships would have to be really big to be slowed down by asteroids.

Well my first question have they decided to fix the random events, and planetary exploration in a way that any choice besides antogonistic  will be a more fair option, or is the biggest benefit when you decide what to do is evil, or is it more fair.

Another question is as far as the factions goes are the tech trees more equal like for instance a more equal number of wonders per faction, if a faction has different government options instead of missing options do the get a tech to make up for this, or do they get different kinds of governments.

Well now.  Color me excited.

It may only be an Alpha, but it's a huge milestone on the path to release.

The vertical movement of the ships disturbs me... Maybe have a setting that shows a smooth movement?

Anyways, the video is rather very limited in actual gameplay.

First thing I thought upon seeing it is that it looked like some kind of fish or other swimming creature.

I don't think we will see any answers to these questions in the first Alpha build.

What is the state of planetary invasions and ship combat in the alpha?

Thalt would be fine as long as its fixed before the game came out. What I would like to see is space creatures, or at least it could be added to a mod. This I think is a viable option for the game.

Invasions are auto-resolved and non-existent :c

I'm not sure about combat.

Graphics wise, how finished is the game? Because as hyped as I am, it looks really like GalCiv 2 with some extra shaders on top.

I mean, I dont expect Sins levels of zoom detail, I merely mean overall. From the video I felt it was GalCiv 2 with enhanced graphics, and hexes, and I REALLY hope I am wrong.

I'm so excited and I just can't hide it
I'm about to lose control and I think I like it

And I know I know I know I know I know I want GalCiv3!

Eh, ok video.  I'm a Stardock/GalCiv fanboy but didn't find this video all that impressive.  Any media is good media at this point though...for another couple days.

He did write that it's from an older build vs what founders will soon see, and it does look it since screenies and stuff that've been posted look a lot more impressive.  I would also expect 3 to look somewhat like 2 since they're not creating an entirely different game.

Some comments are amusing when you consider this is very early footage of a game that's more than a year away from release - almost like critiquing concept art.

The best news is that founders will soon have access and videos and screenshots will no longer be a factor vs grubby hands on.

Between Warlock 2 making a surprise early availability, finally getting beta access to WildStar last weekend, GC3 availability this week, and AOW3 on Monday (taking mon/tues off to dive in) - it's happy dance time.

Don't expect the first Alpha version of GalCiv3 to be more fun then the complete ultimate GalCiv2 edition. Then you will become disapointed.
