Altar and Henchman Balancing
We need a way to balance henchmen, seeing that Altar can simply spam them.
Ideas:
- Increase upkeep costs drastically?
- Some sort of cap relative to the size of your empire?

Why is spamming henchmen a severe advantage over other factions?
The Trogs can spam Juggernauts just as easily, Quendar can severely spam slave militia, Amarians can create arcane monoliths anywhere, then teleport their units into a sneak attack anywhere on the map, Wraiths can spam bound elementals, Tarth can spam some impressive bowmen, Mancers can build roads to their enemies or their own demise, Gilden can spam iron golems, Krax can take any city on the map for a fee and build some impressive spearmen, Umber can create some nasty assassins.
I think to Nerf henchmen we should just boost the other factions.
boosting other factions typically widens the differences between factions and helps them seem more unique. on the downside it means that their is a steeper learning curve. personally i wouldn't mind a steeper learning curve.
The difference between henchmen and juggernauts is that juggernauts can be killed no? Henchmen just regenerate with injury like champions don't they?
Increasing their fame cost would curb over-production.
But even with altar's fame-boosting traits, is spamming henchmen really as viable as it was in FE?
So does everyone here think that no changes are needed?
I think they should be abolished since they are immortal. Only champions and sovereigns should be immortal not trained troops. If not abolished then once they are killed they should stay dead at least.
I brought this up once before but I was given a good reason for why they must be immortal: the AI would be punished by mortal henchmen.
Does the AI work to get rid of bad hero traits when you lose units?
Does the AI even build them? I don't think I have ever seen them.
Altar Henchmen requires 20 fame a pop and no, The AI altar never builds the henchmen, ever.
In fact, in my several hundred hours of play in FE:LH I have yet to see AI Altar build henchmen.
And I don't think I ever seen pariden make use of their arcane towers and Spell books.
I don't think I ever seen Resoln field a army either. . . .
Kraxis always become a city state and then die horribly with few random troops, never seen him field plate armored troops.
Only yithril is a threat out of all empire factions ![]()
Magnar is silly guy. He sends hundreds of slaves against my powerful knights who can killl whole army without being hit once because their slaves is so slow. I suspect it's because he really loves to watch his slaves die.
I've definitely seen the AI fielding henchmen, although possibly it was with FE rather than LH... not 100% sure my memory not so good.
Anybody else confirm or deny this one?
