Skinning

Skinning

what it means for me

I am losing here guys and need your thoughts.

I know since my arrival here my behavior has been spuratic, deleting skins when I am mad or hurt, saying rude things, then happy , then sad, then wanting to quit. Every direction I guess is my point, unstable.

I have reasons, though misunderstood at times I believe.

Skinning take every ounce of my being, I pour my heart into my work and spend so much time trying to make what I hope others will love, not just like, and have yet to do so on a large scale.

I thought I could come up with something new to make this year better and have not, IMO.

I have almost 16 skins better than half done and every time I get close, I start a new one.

I look at what I made and say, Brian, that aint it, and move on.Next skin.

I look at other skins made and just can not see what I am missing.

I need to skin for therapy and stress relief, not add more. When I fail it is literally killing my confidence and making me miserably sad.

Am I the only one who feels this way I wonder. Do your less than successful skins affect you physically and mentally?

I would like to not feel alone on this side of skinning, because you all seem to take what comes and go on with life so much better than me, I assumed you all do not feel as I do. So , I thought I would ask.

Also" any direction or tips on how to make my work more desirable to a general audience would be greatly appreciated at this time in my skinning life.

I want to make skins you like, I want to be liked, I want some tips on how to do that.

I am emotionally attached to WC and its members now, and want to succeed, please help me do so.I will put in the effort and time, just need some help in a direction if you can offer any.

Sorry for my lame post as always, but this is me.DT1

PS, I am sure you all pour your heart into your works also, just do not know how you dont get discouraged.

Finished my first Rainlendar today, felt good, still not sure if I made the skin for me, but, it made me happy.

So, took half your advice, working on the rest.

Thanks all who commented.

of course you did.... YOU wanted to be part of a Community Project... so you were skinning for YOU, whilst also skinning with others, for others...  ;)

a nice combo...   :)

Hi Brian, yes without you I would not be here just like you because I had doubts about my work, and you my help and encourage your advice that its largely the same as you get here, you actually trust you. My inspiration has become better and I would have hit on left WC (you're my mentor)

Sorry if the translation is not perfect

Okay Brian, yes, you are a complete nut, but a lovable nut who has been great for this community.  I recall when kona was needing help getting a PC together, and how you jumped in boots and all to help out.  That is the kind of person you are, and why people like you, because you are helpful, generous and considerate... and if they like your skins as well, bonus.

Oh, and young man, being nuts is a prerequisite to longevity on this site, orright?  So hang on to your quirks and insanity or you'll go crazy, and we don't want that... cos just down the hall from here, there's a couple of nice men in their clean white coats.... and... they'll be coming to take you away ha ha, he he, ho ho... they'll be coming to take you awaaaaaay, ho ho, he he, ha ha... off to the funny farm ha ha, he he, ho ho.  Anyway, you get the picture.

As for your skinning, I and many others like you for things other than that, but also and as well.  However, there are two primary reasons to skin.

The 1st is to do it for yourself, as an expression of yourself and to please yourself with the end result.  If you like it, mission accomplished... and if you decide to share it and others like it also, then you have confirmed your own opinion... it's feching good.  If some people don't like it or aren't too fussed, it just means their tastes are elsewhere and prefer different styles, etc.  There is another kind of person, one who will say impolite and unkind things about your work, but these are just trolls with little between the ears and are best ignored for all the good comments you receive

The 2nd is to pass free/leisure time more constructively than playing tiddly winks with yourself, which I hear can make you go blind, or swinging from the chandeliers out of sheer boredom.... and skinning is as constructive thing as any when you're not doing the dishes, home renovating or fixing the car, but I know what I'd rather be doing.  Yup, you got it in one... skinning.... and like another pleasurable thing, you can do it alone.

Now for the record, I have several of your skins and I like them... but I don't like you for them, I like you for you... then the skins.  Some of my favourites include Gtx, Necro and Nomad, they go great with certain themes I've put together.  I also like Urbansound a lot, but I do have to say that I much prefer those skins you've done without user pics, or those which have a second version minus the user pic.  It's something I've never really liked, it detracts from the skin for me, so I've often sidestepped skins with a user pic because I could never figure out how to get rid of it, tho I tried and failed a few times in SKS

Anyway, the crux of it all: be yourself first of all; be happy in what you're doing; do it for yourself first; share if you so decide; accept the good comments and critique; maintain your insanity and fech the trolls.  Got it?

 :) |-) ;P

Starkers , you must type about a thousand words a second to post so much!

Thanks man, really appreciate the advice and support. I will stay an emotional roller coaster, and keep the user pic thing in mind! One with, one without!

Ace,  Didn't you refer to me as like your daughter once, lol, yes you have been very much a part of my still being here. At first, because you did not like me{understandable}, then, because I want some day to make kick ass stuff like yous! Thanks for that kindness and not giving up hope I may come around.DT1

You're welcome, Brian, what I said is the truth and I meant it.  You do great work and you're quite lovable... in a quirky, blokey kind of a way.

Just remember, to stop yourself going crazy, you must hold on to as much of your lunacy as you can. :w00t:
