Ever want your own race in the game(not custom)?

Have you ever wanted your own race with its own style?I wanted to see what ideas y'all had about if you could get an office race.I'd want odd race. They'd look sort'a like prehistoric raptors, except with wings. There hands would look like they had three fingers, but they,in fact, have five. The last two digits form the wings of this race, and the first three would each be tipped with a claw. There toes would also be like raptor's,with a deadly toe claw. They'd be a diplomatic, warrior race, with the special ability being there planets have more soldiers, since combat would be a way of life. They'd also be hard to turn with culture do to fierce loyalty, and while they are warriors they'd take diplomacy as a first path. They'd be a "good" race, and wouldn't stand with races like the Drengin and Yor.Y'all have any ideas?

Though a cyborg version of the Vesari from Sins of a solar empire would be cool.

And we call them... Jensens. Horatio Jensens...

Sorry, mate, couldn't resist.

Horatio is race from Endless Space, you should know them already.

Adam Jensen is protagonist from Deus Ex: Human Revolution, one of the best games of that year for me, and one of the best games of last few years. I don't throw titles of "OMG, GOTY, 11/10!", so, decide for yourself.

Seconded. Top notch game, and you can get it for cheap on Steam these days. Highly recommended.

Supercheap, if you have friend who owns original package, because he will have outstanding discount on "director's cut'.

Yes, I have several ideas and loads of stuff I haven't done that I wanted to do for GC2, so I'm keeping a good dbase of materials. Hopefully GC3 will be able to run things that we could use in GC2, like animated leaders, logos, planet or star textures etc.

I'd love to have a custom race in game that would go with my personal star, but there are so many potential founders. I suppose it would be too much to ask.

Flamescreen tell the devs what race you would like to see. I certainly do. Help the art department out!

I re-evaluated and I think that it is best to watch the original vision of the creators for now and keep mine for possible mods.

But as I think about the game alot, I had a thought just now... why not make a devs minor(or other), race?

Race: Devaian

HomeStar: Wardell

Homeplanet: Kryo(White color, mostly frozen planet)

Other planets of the system: Other devs I'm not familiar with.

Leader: Kael

Logo: Silver Stardock Logo, on top of a black background and white stars all around(space, as it is a stardock after all).

Race specific Tech: StarBlind(can either navigate without sensors and other equip, or blinds targeting equipment for X amount of turns in combat).

Your a genius!

How about a race of broncos that can't score many points in the super bowls first half! But maybe makes a deeply wanted come back.

Well game's done now with the Seahawks winning.

I just noticed that we've all said what we want our own races to be,but we haven't said anything about what there ship would look like.I guess my race's ships would be a function-over-form kind of style.

I didn't like the Yor style in Galactic civilizations 2, or the color purple.

Ecco's the space dolphins. Because we already have squirrels, so why not?

There's wasn't the best style.It had no cockpit,but they're robots so they can have a little break,and I'll admit,the purple wasn't my favorite.

If the Yor are based on the popular scifi trope of the sentient machine, is there any chance to have a civilization based on the concept of the "horde of alien locust"? A biology-oriented race, massive in number, lovecraftian in nature, etc.? See Alien, Prometheus, the Flood, the Zerg, Starship tropers, etc etc. =]

That is basically the Thalan. That doesn't mean that you couldn't have another insect. The main reason I like them is because I thought they were creative. I would like them to do better. I'm just not that creative. I did think that alien or their copycat when originally aired the Undine were pretty creative. I thought that E.t. and the Vesari looked pretty cool. I think that the new Xander look is pretty cool they should make that a faction instead. Shape shifters and parasites pretty cool. Maybe cyborgs. Since you don't see them I think them being alien instead of Human.

Well, the idea behind the Thalan is "we're coming from a place you can't imagine, to performe a mission you can't comprehend". Nobody believe the Thalan, about their goals, about their homeworld. This is GalCiv's best attempt at making an alien race feel very foreign, along with the Yor. They also have a very distinctive gameplay; improvements dont get more productive, only more efficient.

Other races are really just reflections and caricature of humanity; Dregin are orcs, Altarians are Elves, Korx are capitalistic, Krynn are religious. These civilizations could interchangeably fit into a fantasy or scifi setting.

And thats ok. But it doesnt really feel alien. Even with the Thalan and the Yor, you can sit down at a table and negociate, chat about the weather and women. You can easily relate.

I'll again go to Star Wars and Star Trek. The reason many races in sci-fi are close to humans in the way they think and act(even if it's to the extremes with some)is because we that'd be what we,as humans would expect. It may seem odd to think about, and though I may not believe in evolution but I do believe that for some things there are very few ways of getting it done, such as wings for flight,or legs for moving on land.

Form follow function. But function is determined by environment, and environment vary wildely. Look at ocean life, around volcanic vents. Now imagine a totaly different ecological sytems requiring and demanding totaly different norms for survival and for traits selection.

An intestelar race shouldnt look like it would be fit to survive on Earth.

Did you express yourself the way you meant to on this? Don't you mean "Some interstellar races" or "Most interstellar races"?
