today is sci-fi day

most noteworthy sci fi movie ever?

What three science fiction movies do you consider the best (three) of all time? For me, its Bladerunner, 2001: a Space Odyssey, and Planet of the Apes (the original). Whats your take?

I'm not going to throw out names as I have way more than a person should have. I will just say I watch them all and live on my sf-fi channel. lol.

I will be glad to see what gets posted in cas3e it's one I missed. Unlikely but anything is possible.

Asimov would have been 94 today... using his 'officially celebrated birthdate'.  Isaac actually wasn't sure exactly when he was born, so he decided upon January 2nd, 1920 (it may actually have been as much as month or two earlier, his parents weren't entirely clear on the matter).

I don't know which three movies I consider the best (so many), but this might be a good day to break out The Last Starfighter just because... that movie was fun!

I Robot would be very appropriate for viewing today.  Also Bicentennial Man, and Nightfall (haven't seen that one).

The Day The Earth Stood Still (the original) and Forbidden Planet for you classic types.

District 9, Serenity, Contact...

The Day Of The Doctor, because Doctor Who is now over 50 years old!  Nicely done too!!!

The Matrix Trilogy, Alien, Avatar...

And Dark Star for the silliness factor!

"Metropolis".  Maybe in the future people will learn to spell and maybe even capitalize.

Two of my favorites were already mentioned, 2001 A Space Odyssey and Forbidden Planet.

Day of the Triffids is a good one. The Day the Earth Stood Still, also mentioned. Metropolis....so many.

I don't know about the 'best'... but the one that had the most impact on me was 'It Came From Outer Space' probably because it was the first one I remember seeing and I still give it an occasional watch... it's a classic... great one to show the kids what original sci-fi was all about... we still all make that 'noise' when something spooky happens...    It set the scene for my love of sci-fi....

For the same reasons.... I liked the old original Outer Limits and Twilight Zones...

There's still an old Outer Limits episode I look for in the occasional old reruns... that I remember really freaked me out...lol

The Planet of the Apes (original)

Quatermass (John Mills TV serial)

The Questor Tapes

Close Encounters has to get a mention...

The Day of the Triffids book was good and the film not too bad...

of the slightly more recent crop....

Mission to Mars

Fifth Element

Inception

All Trek... from 60's on...

All Dr Who...

really hard to pick faves when they span such a long time frame... so many of the above mentioned, excellent films...

The one I loathe the most... 'cause it's just so... I dunno... sinister.... it really affects me... is Event Horizon... so I suppose they did their job well...
