Colonies and changing start dates?

Hey guys.

I was wondering if it's possible to change the start date in Gal Civ 2 TA games? For example, I want to start a game in like 2650 instead of 2227.

And have specific planets colonized already before game starts. For example, humans colonize Mars in like 2100, then Venus in 2150. Then have these colonies ready and running by the first turn of the game?

One thing I don't get is why GalCiv never gives Jupiter or Saturn habitality. They have moons where we could colonize and set up factories, fleet bases, refineries, etc. Moons like Europa, Io, Ganymede, Callisto, Titan, etc. Put all together, these moons probably would give more "surface area" or subterrean space (dig city sized caves) to colonize than Earth or Mars.

No, that is hardcoded.

The only way to do this, that I can think of, is a custom map. However, that is probably too much work, because you would need to predefine all races on the map, and recreate their home-systems. Not to mention the map itself, with all the stars, planets, galactic resources, and asteroids.

You can only colonise planets in GalCiv, not moons. It is possible that either Jupiter or Saturn, or both, may turn habitable due to a random event or a UP proposal, but that isn't guaranteed.

Thanks for the responses to my questions.

I realize moons can't be colonized in GalCiv, but it's a feature that should be added. Colonies on gas giant's moons like Jupiter's moons, or the moon of Yavin in Star Wars,

Also, I think that the start date should be fixed so that it can be adjusted. Ditto for turn length. I mean, I'm sure some players might want to set the game in 2500, 3000, or 5000 AD, with a turn being a month, a year, or even days instead of 1 week. In almost all other strategy games I play, start dates and turn length can be changed to whatever I want.

Moon colonization and editable / modifiable start date + turn length would be awesome to have.

You won't see either in GalCiv 2 though. The devs haven't released an update in over three years.

Still, you could wish for it to be added in GalCiv 3, which is currently in development. The devs have already confirmed that several things which are hardcoded in GaCiv 2 will be freely editable in GalCiv 3.

GalCiv 3? Ooh... Wonder how much expanded it will be in scope and depth compared to GalCiv 2.
