Music Feedback
I'm really diggin' the music teasers released in the vault. Great stuff.

Can we have heavy metal music on the game as an option. This would be nicer.
I think they like to save our ears.
The classical tradition is the way to go!
We will have to see but maybe you can edit the music selection in the XML as a mod. I myself prefer the classical space opera-ey music.
When heavy metal first came out I heard warnings about what it would to to someone's mind. Personally, I find it too empty in the tonal sense. I like the full richness of classical orchestra music with many instrumental voices, with or without opera included.
Not a problem you can always turn down the volume.
Is that why Randy Roads is considered one of the best guitarist out there. If it is a mod option out there I hope someone mods it for me. I like Ozzy Osbourne.
Hey Jack I was a kid in the 70's if you remember when heavy metal came out that means you are around 50 years old.
74 years old.
My respect to you sir, I wish I reach 74 and, whatever else I might be doing, also find some time to play GalCiv as well (maybe Galciv 7 by then ;p )
Hey, its no big deal. Many people get there eventually.
If you're serious, then you're the oldest gamer I've ever met.
Nice!
Totally serious. I remember VE day from WWII. I was 6 and playing outside our house and all the air raid sirens started sounding and cars started honking horns. (Yes, we had lots of air raid sirens on the west coast.)
Why do I keep getting these double posts. I thought it was something I was doing, but this one proves otherwise.
I actually enjoy both metal and classical, often a mix- youtube yngwie malmsteen or uli roth playing with orchestras. Always thought 'Night on Bald Mountain' would make for a great heavy metal cover. ![]()
What Stardock could do is find a handful of musical artists from varying styles and release them with some UI skinning as DLC theme packs for GC3. If lesser-known artists were chosen for these packs, it would allow them to get some name recognition (along with an entry on their resume) and might keep the cost of such an addition to gameplay down. I, myself, would enjoy some Amiga MOD style music, similar to Star Control II. Either that or some Joplin-style rags (picture a sweeping space battle with "The Entertainer" playing in the background).
I would also want to hear orchestral masterpieces from galciv2. And ambient tracks like Exploration, I was always playing with that one, so much atmosphere! I think music is another thing, that made galciv2 so great, it's veeery important.
Classical music is good when your concentrating on the game, but normally i find most classical music a bit dull - especially Mozart. What little classical music i do like is mostly from Wagner, or Vagner.
As for heavy metal, i dunno what is going on there? How come i absolutely love metallica black album, ,,, all and eveything else 'heavy' metal, i do not like, with only 2 exception - One, by Metallica and Voodoo people by the Prodigy??
Celtic Women could probably make an awesome track for a computer game
I have a similar problem I find classical dull, but the suggestion is for optional music. The only metallica I like is Kill em all, Ride the lightening, Master of puppets, justice for all, and Death magnetics. The Metallical that understands what a metal band is about. Not the real Metallica that wants to be an alternative or blues band and doesn't want to do any solos with a garage sound. To top things off lets not forget the quote they said at the emmies for the Black album. It doesn't matter what we play you will like us anyways. To be honest Dave Mustang wrote some of the songs for the first 4 albums thats why they knew how to play metal in 80's and changed how they sound afterward.
I like Ozzy osbourne. I would like to see Metal as a side project.
I only really like classical in my games, err the gaming version of classical. I personally listen to rap, 5 seconds of hate starts now...ok stop. I grew up to listen to my dad's rock records but I like the rythmn of rap music.
Well classical would be the default music, but that doesn't mean that there couldn't be optional music hioefully. As much as I don't like rap that doesn't mean that there can't be more than one. This would be for when we got tired of the game music not to necessary replace it.
I think as long as this can be modded in XML that would be cool. A track changer in game like AoW1 had would be better.
People really 'like' Rap music?? I thought it was just one of those things people pretend to like in order to fit in. Or they identify with or are otherwise inspired by the lyrics despite the half assed random clanging and thumping of pots & pans in the background, (not withstanding those few who do actually put some tallent/effort into the background music).
I hope if this is moddable then I hope someone will make one that has Heavy metal background music.
What I would like to see is a side project where there is an option to play a heavy metal background music.
I like the second part of this statement. I think that having a heavy metal and a rap background option is fair, but if they are going to have one please make it heavy metal. I really don't understand why rap is considered music. It doesn't have mych instrumental to it basically just lyrics. I really can't identify with the music because I'm to busy blocking it out to understand what it is saying. I think that they don't understand what hard is. it is really slow music. They should not call themselves hard. People tell me I need to like rap to fit in. I guess the only reason why people like rap music is to be like everyone else.
Dave Mustaine helped write most of the songs on Metallica's first album Kill Em All and a couple on Ride The Lightning, but after that it was pretty much all James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich.
Metallica is something I'm very passionate about, but that's a topic for another forum! ![]()
While my musical genre of choice is definitely Metal, I love orchestral music from video games and movies. The soundtrack for Eve Online is amazing. I personally think a good fit for GalCiv would be some of the european Power Metal bands like Hammerfall, Blind Guardian, etc. The music is very melodic and can be very epic. A lot of it works very well as instrumentals as well. Someone above mentioned Yngwie Malmsteen and Uli Roth. These are very similar.
Make it different for each race. Metal for Drengins or Yor would work great. Option to change soundtracks included of course ![]()
But really, music should be an opportunity for indie bands and the like, if you got the right connections, getting some great music done should be cheap.
Rap is being mentioned a lot here, so I thought I would pose a couple of questions:
1) How would you define the Rap genre of music?
2) When considering the definition you gave for question 1, how far back in history can you find music that matches that definition?
I would define rap as rhythmic chants. It is basically the evolution of quick speak and work songs sung by slaves. It goes pretty far back but it wasn't identified as rap music until fairly recently. Well within the last century. I think it's better when the rapper is actually rapping about issues with the world (Biggie, Jay-Z, etc) instead of just going on about, well you know the stuff that the average person thinks about when they think about rap such as how many hos they have, busting caps in the police, etc...
Anyways, I know some people have strong feelings about rap. I grew up with it and have had many encounters of people seeing a white guy, which is actually not true I'm half black but I'm very white "looking", rolling up listening to snoop dogg. I would recommend though finding some of the older stuff and just listening to the lyrics. There are some great rappers out there.
