The Alpha hasn't been released yet X(   but as soon as the Devs are ready for the alpha release, you'll get a download link sent to you enabling you to access the alpha!

Try a little patience, it's supposed to be coming out late this year or early next if I remember right

When it's ready you'll get a Steam key, and download it using Steam.

Most likely we'll be getting a Steam code upon alpha release. I think I read multiplayer will be in early, they are using steam for their multiplayer, hence it will need to be a steam code and not a stand-alone downloadable alpha.

Okay guys, thanks... i remembered how much i loved the other galcivs and when i saw multiplayer for galciv 3... i didn't bother to research, i said SUPPORT THAT CRAP! and spent monies lol.

When I won't be annihilating the competition with y all-powerful custom races (Or as close to all-powerful as I can get them, if I can actually add in penalties for them too) I'll be using the Drengin... altarians... maybe the new supercorporation or the Krynn.

Probably start with the Terrans and then try other ones as I go. Plan on playing a fair bit of coop, so whatever I pick I hope it's got some unique tech I can trade to my partner (For his unique tech, of course).

Hah, I like the way you put things

I'm going to recreate the Torians. After years of being used as a cure for the munchies they will rise up and conquer the Drengin empire. RISE TORIANS RISE.

On a serious note, probably Altarian. Although the human fleet looks pretty cool. Basically too early to tell right now for me.

I always played as the Drengin, but turned them into a bastion of good for the galaxy in the old gal civ games. But I will likely be the Terrans in gal civ II so I can purge the alien freaks.

Lol, I just enjoy the insectoid races in all games. Whenever i look at the insects here on earth, specifically the Praying Mantis or Japanese Giant Hornet, it always makes me think that if there's another intelligent lifeform somewhere in space that it would be in the form of an insect, considering one specifically, the cockroach can survive extreme radiation.

Can cockroaches really survive extreme radiation? I have heard the comment about them surviving anything, but always considered the statement as hyperbole. I don't think anything organic can survive a microwave oven for very long.

Yes, cockroaches can survive radiation due to their outer shell i believe. Microwave oven, I doubt it.

I looked them up on WikiPedia, and here is what they say about radiation resistance:

"It is popularly suggested that cockroaches will "inherit the earth" if humanity destroys itself in a nuclear war. Cockroaches do indeed have a much higher radiation resistance than vertebrates, with the lethal dose perhaps six to 15 times that for humans. However, they are not exceptionally radiation-resistant compared to other insects, such as the fruit fly."

From this I get the impression that your statement about cockroaches surviving extreme radiation is a bit exaggerated. It looks like a lot of insects share their resistance, and a lethal dose of six to 15 times that for humans does not seem all that extreme to me.

they can to an extent mythbusters did a segment on this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-6cIy_s8pQ

essentially a test group of cockroaches exposed to 1000 rad of radiation (lethal dose for humans) 50% died after 30 days as oppsed to 30% of the controll group

at 10,000 rad 70% were dead after 30 days and at 100,000 rad they were all dead by 2 days if not earlier

there are other insects like the flour beetle that are better at surviving radiation

however Ive heard other theory's that say cockroach's would die off or at least decline in population shortly after the demise of humans

as cockroach's have developed a mostly symbiotic relationship with human society living off of our waste

roaches are not the top-dog when it comes to radiation sheilding, that is the flower beetle.

Yeah, I always played a custom race I uncreatively called the "Mrrshan" in Gal Civ II.  They were my favorite in MOO II so I thought why not.  Created a unique tech tree for them etc.

The Drengin are kiiiind of feline. If you squint a little. Although they look it less and less with each update. Maybe a cross between hyenas and felines.

Like i said, insects in my opinion, most likely because they can survive higher levels of radiation.

Yes cockroaches can survive in microwaves and freezers I've seen it.

Don't let PETA see you saying stuff like that. Roaches have feelings too, you know.
