voice acting

Stephen Merchant

I just finished playing Portal 2 and thought Stephen Merchant did a great/hilarious job in his role.  I was just thinking he would make a great alien voice - maybe for the Spathi or Admiral Zex/the VUX.

Ha ha, totally agree. Not sure Stephen is in Stardock's budget but a million times yes. Please please please hire professional actors. The only good thing about SC3 was the voice acting and this should be no exception either. I actually didn't care for several of the voices in the 3DO version of SC2; half of them were the development team at Toys For Bob and I'm afraid that as talented as they are, they aren't professional voice actors. It was all done on the cheap, but I don't hold it against them. I love SC2 as much as everyone here, but a high budget production with unlimited development time it was not!

Having professional voice actors would be great. Also, in the spirit of Star Control, try and have a little fun with it. If budget were no issue, we could assemble a dream cast: Have Keith David voice a militaristic species, with a few humorous references to his work on Halo & Mass Effect. Ellen McLain voice a mechanical species with a love of testing...and "cake". Aside from their legendary individual work, the recent commercials featuring James Earl Jones & Malcolm McDowell are hilarious; they seem tailor made to voice a species who argues with itself (Ex: Zog/Fot/Pik). Really, there are so many talented voice actors out there that an entire cast of celebrity heavyweights isn't necessary; so long as the genre meme's are witty and varied, drama realistic, and quality high enough to keep us entertained and engrossed.

Would rather take a little more eye candy over voice acting. If there is any budgetary considerations involved that is! Grew up with books, so can still "generate voices" in my head. He he.

We can ill afford another Mass Effect III ending, caused by excessive voice acting!

Kidding!!!

Remember, famous actors are expensive. And I'd rather took silent "talking heads" (yes-yes, oxymoron), but well gameplay, rather than voiced talking heads and another seventy five times perfectly scored piece of art.

Agree, prefer development resources being spent on game development, not expensive voice actors.   SD could do a contest, or seek volunteers to do voice acting.  I would.

Portal tow looks great.  i saw vids of the first one and decided not to get it.  He is, like seriously hilarious in portal 2.  :)  :)  :) :)
