Trying to mod a planet and getting 'access denied' message when I save.

Hi there.

I am was going to move the quality of 'Mars' up from 4 to 10 and when I save the file it gives me an 'access denied' message.

I went into the 'program files', under Twilight, then under custom planets, opened with notepad and I cannot save this one change.

Ok what am I doing wrong?

The 'Program Files' folder under Win Vista, and newer, is protected. You can install software just fine, but editing files is prohibited.

The easiest solution, for now, is to copy the file outside of the 'Program Files' folder, make your changes, and then move the file back.

In the future though, don't install your games under 'Program Files'. Especially older ones. This will save you a lot of trouble.

Besides which, modded stuff should go in your data directory.  That way if you do something wrong, it's easy to revert.

Oh, ok so if I install Gal Civ under a different folder I can change the files? Gunathor thanks very much. I did not try the 'copy and move back' method. Basically I wanted to set all the AI to the number 11 type. I have your mod in my game and I cannot determine if it is being used or not. I can see the mod in my splash screen..APT 2.2 in bottom right corner.

Again the AI seems to be stuck and not researching anything. It started out really good but they are stuck and done at  pulse cannons. I researched another weapon and gave it to them to see if it would help.

Thanks again for your replies...

If you still see this, then you are using APT, and not my mod. In order to change this, you need to go to the Options and set the Current Mods Directory so it points to the Autumn Twilight folder.
Also, you should remove all .raceconfigxml files from your My Documents\My Games\GC2TwilightArnor folder, as I made several changes to the races. Keeping those files would prevent some of those changes from taking effect.

I would really advise against that when using Autumn Twilight. I optimised the tech tree and planetary improvements based on the AI each race is set to. If you change the AI each race is using, then they'll be far less effective.
