Looking to impromve my Gal Civ II Ultimate game.

Greetings! I have been over at the Gal civ III forums a lot and went back and I am playing a game of gal civ II for a refresher.

My version of game is Gal Civ II Ultimate. I do not know if this is different in the case of using mods here.

Will the Weapons and Tech tree mods that I see here work with that game?

Can anyone here on these Gal Civ II forums recommend any good and/or fun mods?

My current game the AI started out pretty strong but mid game now all races have stalled in tech. Like they just are not researching anymore. My difficulty is 'challenging' and its an immense map with what was 6 other races.

Now I am down to the Korrath, altarians, Korx, Arcean and Torians. I am playing pretty much the boring Humans (again).

Korrath have great ships with Harpoon III missles, Altarians ships have the next step up from Laser V, and the Torians are just using Lasers.

I am doing Mass Drivers......

Any advice is most welcome. I am happy to start an entire new game.

Well, the Ultimate Edition is basically the same as having the base game and both expansions so you'll be fine with any of the mods.  The only thing is, most of the tech tree mods modify the same files, so you can only play with one of those installed at a time.

Additionally most or all of them change the raceconfig, so if you want to keep your configurations for the default races, you'll need to back them up before changing mods (if not, just hit clear on each race and reconfigure their abilities to your taste before starting a new game).

As for which one to pick, to be fair all I can say is to try them in turn until you find one that you like.  Of course if you find something you don't like about a mod, you can comment on one of the mod posts here on the forums.

I don't know about any of the other mod authors but I plan to keep doing updates right up until I see the whites of GalCiv 3's eyes. :)

Marvin thank you.

Your mod that changes weapons, I cannot seem to find the 'latest version' on your page. I think I am just blind...

Use the 'External Link' at the top of the page or download using the link labelled 6A from the top post, they're both the same. :)

Greetings again. I started a new game using APT2 and I 'think' I got the AI set to the Ai 11 using his tool. However I am about 1/3 to 1/2 into the game and ALL the AIs have only missiles AND they have stopped researching. It is really odd.

Is there a Mod out there that will CHANGE the Ai to keep researching and keep going? Also if I have One mod installed can I install another and just select it instead of the previous one?

Any advice is welcome!

All races are already set to use AIP 11 in APT2. No need to change them.

Could it be, that the AI is broke? That's the only reason I can think of, for why it is no longer researching.

We cannot mod the AI directly. It is hardcoded. The only thing we can do, is trying to influence some of its decisions, like what to research or what improvement to build on its planets.

It depends on the mod, but all fix mods use separate folders, so it is possible with them. After you've installed it, just change the Mod Directory in the Game Options so it points to the new mod.
