Increased Maximum Number of Major and Minor Races

I want to know if it's possible for the game since it's going to be 64-bit if it can have more than the 8 major and 8 minor race limit.

Such as the options or possibilities for modding and increased number of races for a massive map with a massive amount of races all out to kill each other off.  Just would be interesting to have as several mods I've played before it seemed to have great potential if could only have a few more races (Star Wars vs. Star Trek for example).  Just an idea and looking forward to this game!

Yes, yes, and more yes! 9 + (9) just doesn't do GalCiv justice (I think it was 9 in TA; could be 8).

Yeah. Immense maps need more civs.

I would hope so, considering that the memory limitations were the main thing holding back adding moar races. I'd like this as well

I wholeheartedly agree. More than 10 civilizations on a map. I hated that I had to choose 2 civs that could not participate in my conquest of the galaxy a game.

Same here. Did you have a tendency to pick the same two? For me one was usually the Iconians; the second varied.

I just would like the option to put all civilizations on the map at once plus a few additional custom races :)  Or put a minor race as a major for one game, or a major race as a minor race, (alternate reality galaxies ) :)

Usually it was the Korath, for being just slightly different Drengins, and the Altarians, because they looked like humans, who I usually play as, and that the Drath had access to some of their technology.

Usually the Krynn or the Yor sometimes Torians.

I would like to have a map of at least 31 or more major races. A lot more minor races. I did like the Akilians. I would like to be able to play the minor races.

Any chance of the major - minor differentiation disappearing?

I'm hoping we'll get more diplomacy options with minor races than just "Trade With" and "Conquer".  I'd love to see a system like in Birth of the Federation where you can use diplomacy to get minors to join your empire.

or possibly through diplomacy or some missions enlightening a minor race to major race status

If this mmeans that the minor race stays a minor race until talked into it then this may be a better option for 2 reasons. The first is that this would take care of a problem out there where some people like the minor races being minor, and the second is that this would add a new dianamic which I could use against my opponent.

There tend to be 2 reasons why there is a limit on races:

  1. User interface -- this is the common issue for games with expansions...a UI is designed with the intent of supporting only so many races (in GC2's case, ten), and then an expansion comes along and adds more races -- now what?  Changing the UI, while doable, can be a pain in the ass -- kind of an issue of diminishing returns...
  2. AI relations -- each race added increases the workload on the AI thought process...if you have 2 AIs, each AI only has to consider the perceptions/strength/agenda of one opponent....if you have 15 AIs, each has to do that for 14 different opponents....it's not exponential (more a factorial deal) but going from 10 to 11 races is a bigger increase in needed computing power than going from 9 to 10 races...

You can plan accordingly to avoid issue 1...but sometimes you don't know in advance that you may later need to add races....the 2nd one is more easily solved by superior coding and more processing power....efficient multi-threading is going to be more relevant than being 64 bit...not that extra memory doesn't help, but the memory needs of extra races increases linearly while the processing needs of extra races increases much faster....

Yes on what u said, but technology is getting better all the time. I know that I'm not there, so I don't know what u go through. U forgot one other complication; hikbecause, of modding u r relying off a lot of text files. While this gives players a really great mechanic to change the game. This also slows it down. These r all considerations when u all make a game, or r we talking about convincing a minor race to become a major race.

I think u r talking about diplomacy, foriegn affairs, and galactic council when u mean interface; because this is only an in game mechanic about making minor races major races, and giving the starting abilities and super abilities later. They would still keep the same tech tree,

Would like to see minor races be able to evolve into major powers. Seems strange that the Paulos would build all those starships and never colonize another world or make a play for great power status.

Yeah, more major races on a massive map would be nice.  Maybe 15 or 20?  Who knows? Stardock might have something up their sleeve that could surprise us.  Fingers crossed.  :)

The more you can put in the greater dynamic of the game, all I'm hoping for is at least that from TOA hoping for 50-100% more, anything more than that is even better :)

From a modding perspective, unlimited (or just a very large number) would be nice...

I don't know the cap on the recent total war games but it is kind of cool that basically every province has a unique faction controlling it instead of the general "rebels"...strategy games have worked with very large amounts of factions all on the map at once...
