1.4 [Crash] Middle of turn crashes.

1.4 [Crash] Middle of turn crashes.

Ok uh, I'm going to try keep this smooth, first report and all.

The original thread about this issue is. https://forums.elementalgame.com/449592/page/1/

Debug.err file, its' dated 10/28/2013 the day where i see CTDs for the first time. http://www.mediafire.com/download/1a0cu7endspdm1u/debug.err

Then for the crash files.. I see three.. I honestly don't know what to upload so I'll upload all three.

If you can tell me which one is right, I'll be happy.

And here's the Save file.

Now to explain how it happens.

Basically it crashes every time the AI is processing their turns, dunno who is doing it. Definitely not Yithril because they're resting in their graves.

By having your view chilling on the world strategy view and have the camera zoomed in just about right so you can see your units and cities and enemy monsters and such and move them around. Then the game will eventually freeze then I have to click on the screen to make it freeze up for good and then click again to make it crash to desktop.

And thus, I reload it and try again and it works ok for like 2 turns or more then freeze n crash to desktop happens again.

At this point i was getting tired of it, I zoomed out to the world map, and it seems like it works just fine if I zoom out every single time to world map, not sure though.. didn't test this part enough reloading the game is pretty tiring.

The save file takes place about four to ten turns after the first crash, so it technically can be played but extremely annoying to do so because i don't like to zoom out to world map every single turn. Oh and this is the worst i've been having the crash issues with fe:lh, 1.4 is the worst basically once every few turns compared to, 1.3 only had them from time to time in 1.3 like maybe once every 20 hours or so.

Did I file this report right?

You can probably delete all of those. The 0 KB ones won't be useable for Stardock and the others are from September. When I submit upload dump files I generally delete the file afterwards

Are we giving up on this bug?

I just had my 4th game crash for the 4th time in just one turn.  It happens every time I manually end a turn.  So yet another game I can not finish.

I have only been able to play one game through to the end and that was in 1.3.

Would deleting everything and reloading 1.4 be a possible solution?

I'm pretty sure that stardock (although says nothing) reads these forums and are working frantically about this problem. Don't want to say anything until they A figure it out and fix it, or B figure it out and tell you when it will be fixed....

like most people they will not reply when they C haven't figured it out, or D know the problem, but not when it will be fixed...

But I can probably say they are looking into it right now.

I've been reporting bugs (not specifically this one) from the beginning of FE beta and I have always found they have the bug lists they are working on, they just don't mention a lot of it nor do they tell us what is on that buglist. You can also see developer video of them actively looking at the forums (some of the others, not just Derek). They are really good at checking all these things, although they sometimes need a reminder since they may miss a post or two, so keep posting, but don't be discouraged that they are not looking, because they are.

I started a new game today, and managed to keep it going for 6-7 hours before the crashes started to happen again. So tired cuz that was kind of a marathon that I just went on lol.

I tested your save game against 1.5 with the updated fixes and I didn't get any crashes.  That doesn't garuntee that your crashes will be all fixed by 1.5, just that on my computer I was able to run your save without crashing.  If you can give me more saves that reproducably crash for you I'm glad to test them and see if they exhibit any symptoms here.

Game was started 2 days ago, absolutely new saves

I tried this and it didn't crash for me with 1.5.

That is good news Derek.  I would really love to play a full game.  When can we expect to see 1.5?

Thanks for your help and diligence.

LOL....okay, well....at least I'm not the only one.

The GalCiv III news made me decide to dust this one off and give it one last try to see why everyone says FE:LH is so great.  Put a bunch of hours in before the update, now the save game is unplayable, just like Stridefar's and OP's.

I, also, have never managed to finish a game - from the Alpha of WoM thorugh FE:LH.  <sigh>  :\ I guess the universe is just telling me to give up on this one.

Restarted a few times. It still crashes after 50 or so turns. I reload the save and the crash happens in the same place. Only one time out of the last three attempts did the crash not happen on a reload. very puzzling.

It sounds like they found the reason for the crash. Derek posted that many of the save games that we were posting on the forums were not crashing in 1.5 build that he is currently looking at.

I guess for now hold onto that game until the update. Also if you crash "sometimes" you are able to get around it by reloading the previous autosave, the one before the last autosave, and playing from there.  I set my autosaves to happen every turn or every other turn so I don't loose too much progress. This way you can try and reproduce the crash. Ideally when you crash I would follow the process on the support form for uploading your crash logs and dump files before you load the Autosave or trying to reproduce the issue. It's important to the devs to know exactly why your game crashed in the original state it crashed in, hope that makes sense haha.  I am just checking the forums while I wait for my midterm to upload.

I have many similar crashes, often in v1.3, more in v1.4. The game plays well for a while, but by turn 200, it will crash about once every 5-6 turns, usually at the end of a turn, by turn 300, the crashes come every 2-3 turns, and sometimes in mid-turn, often after completion of a battle, but when other units are still available to move. By turn 450, the game crashes so often that I can't complete even a single turn.

Another surprising thing that happens is when I go into a constricted battlefield (cave, dungeon, certain small cities) with a nine-unit army...the senior commander will not appear.  When the battle is over, he has lost all of his hit points and is wounded (his portrait is all red).  I stopped fighting with nine-unit armies for the past three weeks, but had the same thing happened today with an 8-unit army.

I am about 50 turns away from completing the new v1.4 scenario, but can't go any farther due to the crashes.  I can't even make it halfway through the large Anthys maps.

I am using the lowest resolution possible and a cloth map.  I have an AMD Radeon HD 6770M, with the newest driver as of November 7, 2013 running DirectX 11.  Only the Steam internet connection is running in the background.  The processor is an Intel 7-2600S 2.8 G quad-core unit, with 8GB RAM.  This should be able to handle the game easily.  It has no problems running Skyrim or the three games in the Bioshock series at high resolution.

When I look at computer memory usage, I can see the game is using a whopping 1,400 MB just prior to crashing.

I have over 250 hours invested in the game, but will do no more until I can play a full campaign.  As much as I enjoy the game, it isn't worth the time to invest in a playing a map, only to be unable to finish it after 25 hours of gameplay.  I probably had even more hours on Elemental, and it had a lot of similar memory problems, but they were eventually pretty well cleared up.  I had even more hours on GalCiv I & II, (all time great games) with no crashes, but they used a lot less memory.

Does anyone know when this v1.5 is supposed to come out?  Are we talking days or months?

They usually release these things on a thursday... since it didn't happen last thursday one could probably expect it happening next thursday in beta format. Then about a week after that it should be released, if they find no issues. Of course Stardock would have the official word, and I'm just speculating due to past experience.

In reference to reply #41 above, v1.4 was using 1,400MB of memory prior to each crash, Skyrim cruises along at 600-700Mb.

Okay cool I'll look forward to patch 1.5 then, thanks xD

You game crashed for me. I think Stardock found the problem. Derek was testing many of the saves against the new 1.5 build and it appears the game is no longer crashing for these examples. So now we just wait until 1.5 releases. No update when that will be yet. However, considering the patch notes showed up the beta will likely arrive within 2 weeks.

After a fortnight away from Fallen Enchantress, I came back.  Before, there were just too many crashes.  I always wanted to play through the ultra-large Anthrys map, but could never make it to even the one-third mark without the game crashing before a single turn was completed.  Often, the game crashed as soon as it was loaded. This happened in v.13, v.14, and v.15b.

My computer was top-of-the-line in 2012, so I just couldn't figure out why I could not continue to play large FE games without the crashes.  Then I realized that I was running MS Windows 7 in the 32-bit mode.  It took about ten hours to save all necessary files, wipe away the disk with a clean format, load Win 7 64-bit, and put all the puzzle pieces back together.  It was worth it.  The game now plays much faster.  The resolution seems crisper...is it my imagination?...

I re-installed my Anthys save and was off and running.  I did have a few crashes, but only after several hours of play. The game played quite smoothly, right to the end, with massive number of units and towns in play.  The final victory point screen had me at just a few points under 40,000..I think it was about 39,480.

OK, now off to load up the new DLC and enjoy this game anew, with almost no worries about crashes.  The Stardock team continues to respond.  And now that I have a 64-bit system, I am ready for GalCivIII...:-)

I only crash very rarely, but when I do hit a crashing point it happens pretty consistently.

I think it is when research completes at the same time that an AI tries to do diplomacy with you.

Try to pick a different research and pass the turn, one that won't be complete soon, when that happens.

Also, if other people take your save, pass the turn, and then re-post the save, you should be able to start again from there.  I had someone do it with one of my saves before and it worked fine after that.

I have also heard suggestions to turn off automatic turn ending from people in relation to that bug.
