Events, and Mega Events in GC3?

Events, and Mega Events in GC3?

In reading responses to the post on my Gameranx Interview i was surprised to see the one thing that got people talking was my comments on Random Events. Which got me thinking, this is something people feel strongly about.

GC2 Events, and Mega Events, in particular are something players either love or hate, I have read countless post where people praise them for keeping the game interesting, and many more were people claim they break the game completely, causing countless reloads.

My questions are:

What are your favorite Events?

What least favorite Events? (The ones you hate!)

What Events would you like to see in GC3?

Quoting wuphonsreach, reply 48For the little stuff like the Ranger ship, this already happens because it's a percent change for every anomaly explored and there are simply more anomalies in larger galaxies.

Anomalies have nothing to do with your chance of getting a Ranger. It only depends on how strong your military is. The weaker you are, the higher the chance of getting a Lucky Ranger, a Precursor Ranger, or a bunch of Precursor Corvettes.

Agreed.

Favorite events - Dreads lords!

Hated events - Jagged knife..mainly cuz it seemed to me that AI cant handle it

Mega events - new kind of resource/energy/material have been discovered in space

I've been thinking about the Jagged knife, and this is my opinion of the Jagged knife throughout history. With these examples u would have to conclude they r realistic.

1. The southern kingdom of Judah came from Israel.

2, Carthage came from Phonecia.

3, Israel's conquering the holy land, and leaving tribes of everyone they conquered alive. There's even an example in the book of Judges of a man who tried to set himself up as king over Israel uniting the twelve tribes and failed. Israel rebelled against Rome and failed in 70 Ad. The united nations giving independence to palastine in the 60's. Israel evacuating the Gaza strip for the Palastinians.

4. Macedonia split into 3 or 4 kingdoms. The one that was not the main kingdom of Macedonia.

5. Pakistan  from India.

6. Southern sudan.

7. The Gothic Invasion of the western Roman empire.

8. The crusade states during the crusades.

9. Any of the countries that split from the Holy Roman empire before the last Holy Roman Emperor, or the creation of the Vatican nation.

10, Any of the countries that gained independence from England or Britain, and got reconqered.

11. Any countries that gained independence in the New world that r still not a comon wealth. This also includes the Republic of California and the Confederate states of America. Originally Mexico included Central america and California, so this happened twice. Grand columbia included three nations and split up with Columbia keeping the name.

12, After world war 1 Europe was reorganized. Any of nations formed from Russia and Poland.

13. The vici French, but if u preferred u can say that is was conquered France instead. The Manchurian province that gained independence around this time for a short time from China. Since Austria still existed; the rest of the countries that were split up from the Austrian Hungarian empire.Taiwon after China became communists. Vietnam rebelling against the Japaneese occupation during world war 2 up to the end of the Vietnam war, and the reunification of the country.

14. After the breakup ot the Soviet union they gave back independence to the former Russian republics. The formation of Croatia and Bosnia from Yugoslavia if U count the Serbians as Yugoslavians like they insist.

There may be other, but the main point is that the Jagged Knife split from nations and the previous nation still exist. I would like to also point out that between Confederates and Hannibal that some of these guys could fight. This is my opinion of historical examples ofbe the Jagged knife.

Now I'm going to suggest a mega event or maybe an idea for a first encounter. Going off the fact that Aliens could be made from other solvients other than water, and might breathe other air than a Nitrogen and Oxygen mixture. Could lead to an accidental poisoning of some one like my offering u a glass of sulferic acid. On my planet this is like water to me, so u drink it thinking I'm not going to poison u. U die of course in a way it eats away at u. Upon examining U I notice 2 abnormalities suggesting u had a sickness maybe a plague, The first one looks like leprecy or burgers disease; because all life on my planet would be made from a lot of sulferic acid I could not imagine that this would be the problem. The other thing is I would notice that your body would be full of toxins instead of a normal blood suggesting poisoning by something that changes your blood to water. So I would quaranteen u and the other ambassador until I could do a full autopsy. The other species probably want to see the body and notice that u poisoned them. Because u tried to cover up the body by saying it was a quarenteen it would look like foul play. This could take place between two ambassadors upon first contact or between 2 regular people.

A event could be like when we met the native americans and gave them a plague that we were imune to smallpox.

These two events could cause an awkward situation when 1 of the above meets a species again. U would have an ambassador insulting the species like refusing peace offerings like food or drink. They may be entering the room with gas masks, Hasmatt suits, or breathing aperutus.

Another mega event idea based on the stay out of my space post idea on closing borders. If u only did this occasionally it probably doesn't matter, but if u were the Yor or did this all the time then this might trigger a mega event where u r becoming isolated like Imperial Japan. I don't know the details, but msybe u could help me out, or maybe stardock could even out the details.

I was thinking of the half aliens half human thing. and thinking the blood could be made out of hydrocloric or sulferic acid could this be a problem mating between species like they do in startrek.

Hated events - Jagged knife..mainly cuz it seemed to me that AI cant handle it

I hated that event because it ussaly comes later in the game and OH look half your empire is Gone Oh well if there is any event I never want to see again it is the jagged knife if it had like a cap like 5 planets or 10 and be like a group of your people have rebelled and formed there own empire BUT HALF is rediculus

I think the Jagged knife is a way to make the game more challenging. As is the other Ai's seem to leave the Jagged knife alone. Usually giving u more super projects than what u can make. The Jagged couldn't run their economics thus not making them a viable threat. They had almost all the techs making it a nice place to trade for techs. Yeah this kind of forces u to research planetary invasion. All this does is delays. doesn't really stop u. This also usually gives u more stuff than u can get otherwise including more planets in the end. i'm surprised that a little game irritation is a bad thing. What I don't like is that the Jagged knife can't ryb the empire or that the other species can't see the treasure trove in the Jagged knife and don't try to use it to their advantage. When u think of it historically we r the Jagged knife. Actually any independent nation in the Americas r the Jagged knife.

I have seen this help me when I was playing bad against the Thalans.

I believe there needs to be a much, much larger variety of random events for Galactic Civilizations Three.

Some ideas:

Civilian research makes a breakthrough in technology X. They offer to sell it to Government Y (possibly you).

Stable wormholes appear throughout the galaxy. [On Awe-Inspiringly large maps, this is game changing]

An entire new system appears, with no explanation [though perhaps the player could research one? Perhaps something discoverable and useful in the tech after that?]

A power from beyond the sector sends a colony fleet [a series of fast moving colony ships appear, belonging to a faction that was not currently in the game].

A power from beyond the sector sends an invasion force [like before, but with transports and Super Dominator Corvettes].

A diplomatic ensnarlment: either you make race A mad at you or race B. Choose. [Should be able to look up facts about A and B]

A breakthrough has been created allowing people to be bred to need less food. Ethical? Wise? You decide.

Pirates. In GC2, pirates were a powerful invasion fleet. Here, pirates could appear as weaklings, but in the dark spaces of the galaxy where no one goes but trade ships. The arrival of the pirates forces a choice: invest in patrol ships, or all trade ships return home to stay for the duration.

Tsunamis are occurring frequently on one of our planets. By building an advanced early warning system, we could save lives. But it's costly.

Political demonstrations against your rule. Crush them and be evil, allow them and risk losing control of the senate, bribe them to go away, or give them what they want [end a war, turn loose a vassal, scrap your military and become a peaceful nation, etc.]

This is reminding of the randomness or the game. Sure there could be tsunamis. The problem is that they could occur on baren worlds. This is like when the Yor converts a preindustrial society on a planet they colonize. They turn them into slaves and eats them. Which is silly, but the game can't stop. I think there should be something in there that drops the part of robots eating people off. Well the point is with the tsunamis they sould probably prevent the randomness of baren worlds these should be exempt in the event when they randomly occur.
