Yes I Know Win 8 is out There ....... grrrrrr

Getting a damn stupid advert for Win 8 upgrade everytime I change a page within this Site. This is getting infuriating

If Stardock is doing this - please stop it - its really really ANNOYING ....

grrrrrr .....

If its not them, anyone have a steer where this stupidity is coming from?

I'll change from Win 7 in my own good time - not be pestered everytime I change a screen to "upgrade" to the Dog called Windows 8. This kind of silliness makes my blood boil. Its DUMB marketers gone crazy chasing Corporate Bonuses  .....  :annoyed:

I don't think it's this website.  You probably have malware.

Thanks Charon, I'll have a closer ferret. I am certain its not Malware, this is definitely coming from MS some how.

From your reaction,  it must be a "left behind" when configuring my Browser after a recent reload.

This kind of silliness gets right up my nose ..... grrrr Marketeers (AGAIN) .... they need euthanizing at Birth XD

Also could be an odd extension in your browser.

Yeah that sounds like malware.... There's nothing on the site that would even begin to pop anything like that.

You might want to nuke your computer from orbit.

IE10 - and no - I'm not getting into Browser Wars :)

So far I've found AVG lurking, and that filth makes me deeply suspicious. That garbage burrows itself so deep into config files it can be a Nightmare to dig out. Found it on IE10 and Chrome - not on Opera (yet). Dug out a big AVG directory on C Drive (that's now history), and inside the msconfig file. God I hate AVG, it crawls in like some virus from Hell. No doubt I'll have a fight for a few days before I finally eradicate the filth. :annoyed:

However ..... I still get the MS Browser page when changing pages (only on this site - others are clear).

So ..... still ferreting...... hey-ho *_*

I do not know people, but Windowz 8.1 is out yesterday and it is free for Windowz 8 owners, just instaled it today on my mother MacBook Air.

Just go to the Microsoft Store and download it.

P.s. The only thing i hated was that after instaletion i had no way to log in to my computer with out using Microsoft public account, so i used it and after login to system i changed back to login by local password only.

Because with the resent Snowden discoveries and all other discoveries, that right now the US goverment is a bunch of criminals who can do what ever they want with out looking first in to US Constitution, so it is not safe to keep ur information on public services, until we have goverment which follows US Constitution.

I hope they cracked it ..... because they didn't with Windows 8, the latter was a Marketers invention halfway through Code Development, to boost in year cash flow.

We definitely need an updated Windows, so I wait with eager anticipation, but it has to offer real tangible improvements over Windows 7, not headline grabbers for the braindead. I have no doubts much work has occurred with the Core Code, and it does take time to build on that to get a flexible viable beast for us mere mortal Users.

I await with eager interest, but I have a suspicion I will not be parting with the Dosh until Windows 9.

I tried browsing this site with IE9 and I didn't get any ads for Win8.  I'm running Vista 64 business on this machine, so I don't have IE10, but if MS was sending targeted ads, I'd think they'd hit Vista machines as well as 7.

The only computer I have with 8 is my gaming machine and I don't surf on that one, so I won't be able to check on that one.  However, satoru1 tested it in IE10, so that pretty well shows that it's not coming from there.

Good luck finding it.

What browers(s) are showing the ads for you?

It was with IE10. Its seems to be receding, still get it, but reducing numbers.

Only happens when on the GalCiv3 Site.

Its the standard Windows "Choose Browser" screen, except Win8 is the minimum Browser choice shown.

I misread the original topic. I was getting a "Your browser is out of date" message, not a win8 message. Only on this site, and with both IE and Chrome. Both browsers are up to date.

I got a Java update this morning, and didn't get the message when I opened this site, so I'm hoping that was the problem.

That's a thought ...... I just did a Java Update ..... see if that finally kills it off.

WIllythemailboy  .......  nice catch ..... the Java Update worked a treat. The forum is going like greased lightning now. Whether it was actually Java causing the hassle or not, I have no idea - but the silly Win Browser Choice screen is no where to be seen now, and the really good bonus is the Site for GalCiv3 is zipping along - so it works for me ......

Job Done
