Bow Ability Idea - Aim, what you think?

Hi all,

Not sure if this has been suggested before or not.... but I'm looking at modding in a weapon ability for Bow's... "Aim".

I was thinking it could be that when you activate the Aim ability, you forgo that turn... but next turn you get +25 Accuracy and +50% Damage.

What do you think?

Probably the damage would need to be higher to make it worth skipping a turn, maybe 100% bonus (double damage).... or alternatively +50% Damage and +25% chance to crit or similar maybe...?

This also then allows for the possibility of other abilities that increase the Aim skill... eg. "Deadly Aim" ability that gives extra damage when using Aim.

I'd like to see multishot. 25% (or 50%) damage to all enemies on screen.

The problem with something that doesn't fire until the next turn is that circumstances can change.  Just as an example, your aiming unit can get killed or so heavily damaged that doing 50% bonus damage just doesn't matter.  For a one turn delay it has to be pretty awesome.

I fondly remember the Volley ability from the FE weapons mod by... by Ken? was it?? ( #:(   I love getting old!)  

But it was an attempt to make weapons more interesting and it was largely successful.  Murteas did a bit of modding work with him iirc...

Anything to make units more distinct is a good thing!

Don't recall tha tone, before my time maybe.... what was it like a multishot thing?

I guess that's another option for a Bow skill... Volley/Multishot or somethig.... like Doublestrike.... but maybe like -40% Accuracy bur 3 shots in the round of whatever.

I'm guessing that was a Kenata mod.  Some of the things he introduced with his mods have since found their way into the Elemental 'stock' weapon abilities.

I haven't noticed Kenata around since the E:WOM days.  I wasn't paying much attention during the E:FE days, so I'm not sure at which point Kenata disappeared.  His E:WOM or E:FE Mods might be an interesting place to look for weapon ability ideas.

 

As for 'Aim', I'd be good with a 5 turn cooldown instead of waiting a turn.  As others have pointed out, things can change drastically from one turn to the next, so waiting a turn might be too drastic.  If the OP wanted to introduce a couple of bow abilites into his mod, a volley ability, as mentioned above, would also be nice.  Dunno if you could design a volley to hit three adjacent opponents (similar to cleave), but I think that would make more sense than 'all opponents on the map'.  Didn't someone make a similar ability for the Ranger class?

I'd suggest that 'Aim' increases your accuracy, and perhaps your chance to crit, at the expense of dodge/defense.  Essentially, you are standing still, so you are much easier to hit.  I'd be wary of a damage bonus, though, as those can easily unbalance things (maybe a small one).

Thanks, tjashen!  I knew it was something like that!  Yes, volley was a once every 5 turn special bow attack that hit every enemy in a 3x3 square.

  

Wow... E:WOM??!!?  That was a long time ago!  

 

Additional ideas:  Flaming arrows create a fiery wall that lasts 3 turns and/or it just damages units and sets them afire for 2 rounds.  Or could be an alternative for pitch balls from catapults.

 

Poison arrows also seem like a fun idea.
