Object Dock 2+ and W7 and UAC

I've been working With Stardock support on a number of issues related to OD2 + with W7 SP1.  Several problems are related to UAC.  WIth UAC turned on the Aero peek on docks doesn't work, neither does dragging and dropping an icon to create a new doc entry.  It also refuses to start at boot time with UAC on.

Has anyone else seen this behavior?  I'd like to have UAC on at least for installs and system changes but the only way it will function properly is with it turned off completely.

UAC is problematic on Win7 which is why mine is turned off. It has a tendency to interfere with programs even after they've been installed.

Useless Annoying Crap

I have no need for a built-in babysitter on my rig. YMMV

Well that's good Wizard but off subject.  We all know Windows is its own worst enemy when it comes to security.  UCA may seem like a babysitter to you but it can be a lifesaver when surfing the web and some site tries to initiate a stealth drive-by download.

My question was does anyone successfully run Object Dock on W& with UAC turned on?

UAC will not help you with a bad website. User Account Control is crap and causes more problems than it solves, Greg, really, I'm surprised you defend it.

Off topic maybe, maybe not. But I can't help you either because UAC is off on all my machines. Useless.

I hope you can find someone here who uses it, I doubt there are many.

Yes. UAC interferes with lots of software, not just ObjectDock. It's not about what someone else does to your computer. It is there to protect itself(Windows) from you.

Off Topic:

YMMV = Your Mileage May Vary.

YES YES AND YES i was having same problems then i read this post tuned off UAC all of a sudden everything worked great no more problems what the hell is it with the UAC that causes these problems with programs ????????????

The Wiz said it best, UAC = Useless Annoying Crap. Put there to protect you from you. Some programs look to alter the way your PC boots up by putting itself inside the start up menu, not always a good thing. The more you have in there the slower your machine will be to boot up. Not only that but they may conflict with others on start up, competing for resources. To bad yrag isn't here. What a time he'd have.

I run Win 7 Home Premium with UAC on.  I have no issues with Aero Peek working.  I have Object Dock 2 Plus ver 2.10.0.811

Autorun on Windows startup works here also.

Some issues to check:

1.  are you logging in your machine as an administrator account?

2. are you using default settings for UAC?

3. do you use Tweak7?  It will give you easy control of UAC settings.   Tweak7

4. what security setting are you using for when a program requests elevation?

UAC is a valid security feature of Windows imho.  I am okay with using it and always have it on.

UAC makes ask permission to do everything. Screw that...lol. I have it off.

All it does is try to save my PC from me, which I don't need.

Tweak 7 also does changes that aren't reversible, if I'm not mistaken, which is why I quit it a long time ago.

I have a question I also am running Windows 7 HomePremium 64 bit sp1. When I'am using the UAC it does seem to have an effect on all the Stardock programs I'am using I have CursorFX plus , Window blinds, Object Dock starting on boot when UAC is on boot time is considerably slower when it is off boot time is 80 to 90 percent faster so you see it has a profond effect on my system can the UAC effect you boot or logon like that because it sure seems to ?

Not true as far as I know.  From the Tweak7 Overview page:

"Microsoft has increased both the power and complexity of its popular Windows operating system with the release of Windows 7. Stardock's Tweak7 enhancement application helps you configure Windows 7 to meet your personal needs by improving performance.
Unlike other power tools for Windows, Tweak7 automatically prompts enhancement recommendations, offering easy "one click" updates to otherwise complex configuration changes. Tweak7 is also safe to use. By utilizing Microsoft's system-restore technology any changes you make can easily be rolled back. You can freely experiment with different settings without disabling your computer."

I know I have a fairly long boot time when I do a full restart.

I typically use sleep mode though and a USB 3.0 memory stick as Ready Boost.  That combination reduces my boot time from sleep mode to about 15 seconds including WI-FI startup.
