Soverign and Champion portrait editor

Hello,

First off I's like to give my thanks for great game it really is the best thing since Fall from Heaven 2 IMO and has already kept me up far too late for many, many nights (which is exactly what a game like this should do).

One thing I would love to see is a simple portrait editor in the game so that players can add their own character images for the sovereign and their champions (I have a pile of really great ones collected over years of fantasy gaming).

Is this possible, likely or (hopefully) planned for a future updates?

Great work so far though.

Cheers,

Thanks, it’s good to know that others would like this feature as well.

Does anyone know if this has been considered by the developers and whether or when it will be implemented?

Cheers,

OK possibly a dumb question, but what do you actually mean by a portrait editor.... what do you want to be able to do exactly?

Hello abob101

I would imagine something similar to other older fantasy games where you have a portrait folder in the game directory that you can place images of the correct size/format (.JPEG .GIF .TGA). Then access these within the game by going into the character menu and having a button to ‘select custom character portrait’ similar to the change name and being able to select your own art for Sovereigns and Champions. I don’t know whether it is possible and it may be too difficult to implement in FELH but it would be a nice feature to have?

Sorry if I was not clear in my earlier post.

OK I see.

It's easy to change the "medallion" image for sov's and champions... the medallion being the lower left corner of the screen when you select a unit/champion.  You just can't do it in game.... but if you are prepared to edit the xml file you can easily add a custom medallion image for your custom sov after you've create him/her.

Not really what you're after but better than nothing.

Thanks for the response abob101 ,

Do you have a link to a guide that details how exactly to do this or are you able to provide details, also will this change the image on the character card when you trade items?

It's really easy, you can set the medallion for a Sov (or any other champion/unit) like this if you want to give it a go...

1) Get your image, resize to 256 x 256 and save it in png format to your LH Mods\Gfx folder.... it will be a location something like this:

C:\Users\Master\Documents\My Games\LegendaryHeroes\Mods\Gfx

Call the file portaitofmycoolsov.png or whatever you like.

2) Find the xml file that specifies your sov, so go create a custom Sov using the workshop, then exit the game... go and look in you Units folder which will be a location like this:

C:\Users\Master\Documents\My Games\LegendaryHeroes\Units

Find the file called MyCoolSovName_1245678.xml and open it with notepad (or your favorite text editor).  The file name won't be exactly like this but you should be able to find it.... it will start with the Sov's name then have some rubbish and have a .xml extension.

3) There will be a line in the xml file that looks like this:

<Medallions InternalName=""/>

Replace it with these 3 lines:

<Medallions InternalName="">
   <All>portaitofmycoolsov.png</All>
</Medallions>

Using the filename of the portrait image you saved.

4) Done.  Start game.

This does not change the image use when you trade items, or in diplomacy.... those are all real time renders of the 3d model.  It changes the "medallion" image... which is the portrait used in a bunch of places, basically anywhere where it's in a round frame.

Some examples of one I just did to verify this works:

abob101 the differences between those pictures - what the guy actually looks like and what his "profile" picture look like had me cracking up

Yeah probably wasn't the best visual example  ;P

This worked a treat, thanks again.

Now I just need to find out if it is possible to mod the 3D images to 2D ones.

PS: I know this is obvious but I fell for it last night, when using abob101 instructions above please remember to activate mods in the options menu.

Not easily.

It might be possible using desktop x to modify the gui.
