Bariatric Surgery Patients? UPDATED

Bariatric Surgery Patients? UPDATED

Do you have anything to share?

Hi guys. Just wanted to see if anyone out there has had bariatric surgery and if so, do you have anything you'd like to share?

Helpful tips, things to watch out for, etc.

My wife and I are gearing up for the gastric sleeve surgery. In order to get the insurance company to pay, we both had to lose 10% of our weight, as a show of commitment.

Lisa made her 10% goal today!    Yay Lisa!! I weighed in today with the hospital dietitian, I have lost 9 lbs. since last weigh in!

I still lack 11 lbs.  But I have greatly reduced the amount of insulin I use and am at a point of having a blood sugar average of 80 - 110 mg/d. I was averaging around 250 - 300 and had an A1C of 11 - 13. I expect an A1C of 8 or less when I see my Dr. mid August.

I have been walking the track at the hospital where Lisa works. Getting from 4 - 6 miles each time I walk. Protien shakes and an 1800 calorie per day diet is going well.

I would greatly appreciate any tips, tricks, recipes, stories, etc. that you may want to share!   Wish us luck!

Lisa has some prolonged drainage, and more bleeding than normal. May need a transfusion.

Please keep prayers and good thoughts coming!  Extra day in the hospital earned.

Thinking of both of you. If I was close to you I would help with the transfusion if it becomes necessary. One of the medical drawbacks being far away. All will be well.

Uh, I think that should have read "so no transfusion"

Come to think of it, your last statement doesn't sound quite right either. o_O (Just keeping you smiling, pal.)

It's great to hear that she's doing much better and headed home.
