Welcome Back Ladies and Gentlemen i'm Max Stevenson and here with us tonight is George Englebart Confed Military Historian. Now if you missed the beginning and your joining us now we are discussing on tonights show the Confed's history and how it expanded into the superpower it is today. Now George what exactly happened when the Arceans Received the Hyperdrive Plans?

Well Max no one exactly is sure, see the Arceans are a militant secret race and no first contact has actually taken place between them and us. See the Arceans live on the other side of the Galaxy supposedly only the Drengin Empire has had contact with them. We can only vaguely guess their location by listening in on radio transmissions coming from the other side of the Drengin Empire. Now what is known is that the Arceans distributed the Hyperdrive plans to other races and that led to the era as we know today as the Colony Rush which lasted from 2226 to 2232. Now when the Confed began construction on the colony ships and explorer ships to begin expansion into space the Bradley Administration founded the Confed Space Navy which was divided into three branches. First is the Colonization Fleet, Second is the Confed Space Navy, And Third is the Confed Merchant Navy. Now the Colonization Fleet began expanding Confed's Borders in Feb of 2226. The Confed Navy discovered Dozens of Star Systems with habitable planets to our relative Northwest on a Galactic Map and a few scazttered systems capable of supporting life to our south. No one knew were the nearest alien empire resided but no one cared. See the main focus of the Confed was to Colonize, Colonize, Colonize and above all Colonize. By March of 2226 2 Star Systems had been colonized and this allowed Bradley to win a Second Term as president of the Confed, but he won with 66 electoral votes as the Confed's spending was leading to a defecit of 22 billion credits but the government did not pay mind to that as revenue was generated in massive amounts from the mining bases on the Solar Asteriod belt and other asteroid belts in nearby systems. By Mid 2226 the Britanion, Aldra, Kievi and the Hyadea Systems had been colonized. 

Wow now had any Alien species been encountered yet george?

Well no but Confed Intelligence was picking up heavy communication west of the Chebychev System which was next to be colonized. The Confederate Navy which was under the command of Fleet Admiral Helena "Stinger" Cain a Veteran of the 6th World War ordered the construction of multiple Starbases like Border Post 4 and 6 to monitor the area. In the Opening week of November 2226 the Confederate Fleet Flagship the TCS Bonaventure made contact with a Thalanese Scout Ship. This was first contact between the Terrans and another race, the Thalanese were kind and were given a tour of Earth but they acted very awkward. Records show that one of them said they were keeping an eye on us, See nobody know from where in the galaxy they came from and how they got here. Apparently they operate under a hive mind like bee's. Before they left the Thalan Empire gave the Terrans a map of their territory marking Thalan Space and space that the Confed could Colonize. Now the Confed and Thalans were the only two races expanding into the Gamma Quadrant and tensions quickly rose as the borders met and Colonies were established rather close to each other. In the following weeks of november the Slepur and Vitellius Systems were colonized all less than 2 sectors away from the Thalan Border. The rising Tensions put pressure on President Bradley to strengthen the Confed Military. Admiral Cain is stated as saying "If we don 't hurry the bugs will infest the space surrounding us and we'll be trapped." With those words Bradley ordered 300BC to be spent on Warships for the security of the Confed but the move came late as in the  2227 May Elections Bradley Lost to his Federalist Counterpart Laura Roslin.

Now this was a historic event was it not?

Yes Max it was because the Roslin Administartion although a bit focused on military brought many reforms that helped the Confed. One of those such moves was the Colonization Act of 2227 which gave colonies the right to govern themselves while still under Confederation Rule and allowed them to vote in senate elections.

Ineed it did, and it's something that we cherish still today

Yes, now as i was saying after the first confed warships were completed which were about 20 Defender class warships were all deployed to the south as a deterrent to Thalan Expansionism. In May 3 Star Systems were colonized and these star systems. Those Being the Dilthi, Altros, and Brindle which are known as the Industrial Heart of the Confederacy. It was in the Brindle System also when the colony ship landed a Torian Scientific Team was found exploring the planet. This was the second encounter with another aline race and this one proved beter. The Torians were very friendly and gave us a tour of their home planet Toria. Confed-Torian relations quickly blossomed and a friendship was established leading to the Treaty of Toria which shows the Galaxy that the Torian Confederation and the Terran Confederation are military allies.

Now this seems to have a profound effect on the people right?

Oh yes people start touring Torian Planets and Torians start migrating and touring the Confed and this worked Both ways. I mean look at mars. Mars has a population which 25% is Torian who want to start new and help both powers prosper and the Human Cities on Toria V which is a mixed culture planet.

thanks and what exactly do you mean?

Okay welcome back ladies and gentlemen now George the Roslin Administration you said was focused on the military, could you explain that a bit?

Well Max, President Roslin was a President who wanted to protect the Confed and it's assets. Some might even say that she was a military fanatic like those that were loyal to the dictator's of the early 20th century but Roslin actually cared about what happened to the people. Seeing the Thalan Empire moving closer to Confed Space Roslin allocated more funds to the military budget to defend the outer rim colonies. Admiral Cain a brilliant strategist in the arts of military then was able to position her fleets and ground troops in strategic sectors to deter the Thalan's By 2228 the Thalan-Confed Border was seen as both sides like a de-militarized zone. But in 2228 that all changed as the Thalans became isolationists. With this unprecedented move Roslin switched funding back to the Colonization Movement and expanded confed North into the heart of the Gamma Quadrant. On February 2nd the Brindle System was colonized and on March 1st Roslin won her 1st re election as President of the Confederacy. By June the Neleus System was colonized and July brought the Colonization of the Megrez System. Which today we know as the "breadbasket" of the Confed. On November 1st 2228 the TCS Bonaventure made First contact with the Altarian Republic. The Altarians were humanoids and had the same genetic sequence of us but it was different because of the cellular structure. Cellular structure is what made us different but people ignored that and embraced the Altarians as cousins and scientists began to search for the cause of our similarities. By Christmas 2228 everything had calmed down in the quadrant, we were allowed to expand north and our economy had it's ups and downs but nothing happened until New Years Eve. While everyone was rejoicing throughout Confed because of the New Year terrorists planted a bomb aboard a shuttle craft that was carrying the Secretary of Defense Alex Goree. Goree was headed to have a conference with Admiral Cain at the Fleet Headquarters. Now Fleet Headquarters was stationed at the Utopia Planitia Shipyards in ordit of Mars. The Bomb was placed by Thalan Spies, who had infiltrated Earth when they first visited. The bomb exploded when the craft docked at the shipyards and killed the Secretary of Defense, everyone who was on board and the blast destroyed the Docking moorings of several ships near the blast site destroying 3 ships and severely damaging 4 others. Admiral Cain had not arrived yet and survived the attack but 7,000 people lost their lives that day, and until this day we can not forget that tragedy. 

Now what made this bomb so powerful and how did it cause so much damage?

Well, the bomb was made by the Thalan's and had the explosive power of 2 Tsar Bomba's, our scientists have not been able to understand how the Thalans could compact so much energy into a small canister the size of suitcase.

Wow, now what effect did this have on the people?

Well in the following weeks massive riots took place and people attacked Thalan citizens and boycotted Thalan products, needless to say the impact was felt by everybody. 

Did this raise tensions between the Thalan's and Confed?

Surprisingly the Thalans Condemned the attack and took full responsibility for it. They apologized and remained an isolationists power for several more years.
