[RANT] After 1 failure and 2 "reboots" I expected a lot more....

Okay so I finally had the chance to sit down and play a few hours of LH 1.1. I'm disappointed to say that once again it feels like another release that is not yet ready for prime time. I was not able to finish one game. The game is still buggy and almost unplayable. From a balance, design, and content stand point to straight up constant CTD's. I'm not sure how else to say this or what to elaborate on as the issues are many. There's some obvious issues that persist since WoM!!

How do you sit through a full game of this and go "yup it's ready for release?" It's a little bit more polished as compared to WoM and FE but it still feels like an unfinished product. It's like repainting your car and putting new rims on it without fixing the engine problems. I do hate to be so negative all the time and I DO want to love this game. It has so much potential. My honest opinion though is that it still needs a few more months in the oven. I would have to give LH a 5/10 in it's current state.

I find myself going back to CIV V because even though it's less interesting as a concept, the game at least works. It feels like a finished product.

That is all. Please don't hate me for this. I know these general rants are of no help but I just want to get it off my chest. It at least helps me. I still respect all of you at Stardock and all the work you guys put into this. Please don't give up on this project and prove me wrong!

Sounds like your computer needs help, you SHOULD be concerned, because if a game this solid is crashing that much your PC could have a serious problem.

I've had 1 or 2 CTDs and probably helped those by running mp3's while playing and/or alt tabbing incessantly.

I haven't really noticed any bugs (and I'm a bit hypercritical about stuff like that as a coder myself).

You know what I have noticed a bug or I think it may be a bug.  I've noticed that sometimes units from other empires/kindoms with just sit in place for a long time and not be hemmed in by borders. Usally it is a Player that has no cities but some time is is normal units.

If this is already known then I apologies for bringing it up.

I bought CiV 5 last week during a Steam sale, played a few games, and I can honestly say that this iteration of Civ is bland, lifeless and "dumbed down" relative to Civ 4.

IMHO, LH (and FE) blow Civ 5 away.

Well we are going to disagree on this.  I've played CIV since it first came out many years ago and CIV 5 is the most fun version of the game and it keep getting better. With the Kings update and soon the new update coming out next month it only gets better.  But then what really does it for me is the fact that they turn the would into a giant tactical combat (one unit per hex) And I loved that. The battles are more like AOW and FE:LH in the tactical aspect. Combat blows away previous version. However there were things in CIV4 that should be pulled over to CIV 5 and they are slowly doing that.

To be fair I over exaggerated a little with CTD's constantly. It does crash relatively often though compared to other games. I would say at least 2 or 3 times a day. Once every 3 hours or so. Granted you can of course play a full game but it is far from ideal compared to most other games I've played. Please don't hang on that one detail. Even if the game did not crash there are plenty of issues not related to crashing. Most the issues I am thinking about wouldn't be hardware related. Most of my issues are with bad implementation, design, UI bugs, XML bugs, and general content. Mostly software and polishing issues. Heck saving and reloading a game is a crap shoot most of the times. Something always seems to go missing or not reload correctly. I know that is not hardware related.

Brad I've read hundreds of your posts and the tone and way you defend the game is pretty disheartening sometimes. I love the direction the game is going in. I just think it could use a few more months in the oven. Please stop with the "maybe this game isn't for you rant." I know this is your baby and you want to defend it but you need to take criticism too. I know you will always be biased but some choices in this game are just bad no matter how you look at it. You guys have had 3 tries now and the game still feels rushed and incomplete. One could argue each version was more like an abandonment and then a reboot.

And to top it off (and the only reason i'm back on this post) is paid DLC to add content for a game that is 80% complete at best? This includes both the map DLC for FE and the new DLC for LH. I have lost all hope at this point. You're right the new CIV V expansion is probably more my thing.

Also the reason I say the game needs a few more months in the oven is precisely what's happening. As soon as the game is "official" patches will be few and far between and paid DLC will be released with stuff that should probably have been free in the game to begin with.

Now I have no issue with monetizing your work but like I said but releasing a content DLC like this weeks after the game was released is pretty bad. I thought as your own publisher you had more control over stuff like this but it still seems like a rushed product with a money grad at the end. Let's be real most people with LH received it for free anyways.
