Graphics section

Well guys, I just rejected some skins that some authors were uploading on the graphics section.

I did that based on a discussion between the admins that ended on us deciding to no longer accept skins on that category, since this is not the porpouse of that section.

"Graphics" is a place for people to upload the graphics he wants to sare with other others for them to use on their skins, interfaces , etc...

I hope you understand our decison.

Does that include wallpaper that people have uploaded to it and other artwork that belongs more on an art site rather than a skinning site?

I believe a lot of people have uploaded to the graphics section, not realizing they are making their work public domain. I have thought about starting a thread on this several times..............but I didn't want to wake any vultures.

Messiah...the 'intent' of the 'Graphics section' is for people to upload graphics they wish others to freely use in their skinning/whatever....'free to use', without encumberance...

Some good skinners are posting their Icons not performed on Icon Packager (AKA icons for apps. etc.)

I also uploaded icons on this section, and after deleted them.

It may be interesting to create a section with 'General Purpose Icons'. Or maybe you are awaiting the IconX appearance to create a new Icon Section?

Is there any chance this will lead to a few new libraries? Apps like rainlendar, ezpop, and kewlpad, to name a few, take up very little space/bandwidth, and are at least as popular and useful as Beatnik. And Xymantix's new SysMetrix app is very cool. If people are going to start skinning it, it deserves a library for sure.

I remember a while back, when the new site design was being developed, Frogboy asked people if there were any new libraries people would like to see, but I don't recall any being added. Just wondering...

Mike, there already is a section for kewlpad, and wait a few days, something's coming up.

Okay, understood after this explanation.

Mike...I think one or two were added...but one thing is for sure...if and when a new app section is added it will be a valid and worthwhile one.
As one of the hilariously few people to actually skin CD Stomper I know first-hand how 'obscure' some sections can be.
Back when there was only one 'real' skin site...[skinz.org] I had THE most popular CD Stomper skin...[by a country mile] and it took 2 years to get to 2000 downloads.
Just compare that with a WB skin by treetog, Alexandrie or Adni18.....it's really 'sad'...

When a new section is added it'll be something 'good' and fun to skin...

Thanks Paxx and Jafo. You've satisfied my curiosity. I thought I might have been wrong about kewlpad. I didn't do my research before I posted.

I brought this thread up, because I was looking for a definition of what type of material goes in the graphics library....the comments from treetog and Jafo cleared it up for me....so here it is just in case anyone else wanted to know

IMO the graphics section was to upload things you want to share with people (like .psd files) Or skins you want to give away so other people can 'finish' them or something simulair to that.

Perhaps a section called 'other skins' for any program not covered by existing sections.

I know it lost out to bootskins in the last poll, but I'm thinking that it might be a real help to a lot of people both skinners and the public, to have a Rainlendar section. With the new version of Rainlendar there is increased functionality and additional graphics in a Rainlendar skin for the new version, and updating Rainy's made for the old version the way things are now would mean a whole lot of Sysmetrix skins going up and down through the portals.

I realize that separating the Rainy's from the Sysmetrix skins will be kind of a pain but it would be a pain to update anyway with the skinner having to upload a new Sysmetrix package just to add a new Rainy. With a new Rainlendar library, skinners could upload the new Sysmetrix without a Rainy and then upload the new Rainy separately as a much smaller file. Would prevent thousands of downloads of Sysmetrix just to get an updated Rainy.

Name it "Pot Luck" the most feared response that is heard around the globe to the question "Honey, what's for dinner?"

Actually, the answer I fear most to that question is "Reservation$"

Reservation at one of those places that set you back a weeks worth of groceries and when you get home your still hungry

"Amy's" utter shock at size of salid ( unfathomable ) total disgust with price of the total dinner which you could have hidden under the salid? ( absolute )...

the Red Neck sure wanted out that night > s/o knew it too once the order for Jack Dainels and a Bud long neck (no I don't need a glass, thank you) was ordered...

There probably should be a catch-all library section, the only problem is with it being there. People whould in short order start complaining and making demands which would probably lend to more grief than it's worth for the admins and the rest of us who would have to put up with holding back from responding to some really really inane postings on the message board in the end...

dunno, but for some reason that jumps out at me when thinking it over...

I remember, about 6 months ago, someone uploaded there new website for everyone to see. They said "This is my new site, what do you think?" I replied, "Thanks, for the free graphics. Am now working on the windowblinds and winamp skin from this. Thanks! Do you have any other websites?"
They took it down in a matter of (hours).
I thought it was hilarious.

It occurred to me as I read this post by IP that people are already turning the graphics section into a catchall. Some, I think, to good purpose, like those who have posted sets of user pics that go with their themes, or partial skins, etc that someone else may want to finish.

But take a look at the New Additions list on the right over there. --> It's currently dominated by 9 colored versions of the same wall, a wall I somehow think would not pass moderation and gain entry into the wall section. I wonder how many other people are going to see that and think Hey! I can get my wall on WC afterall...

Shameless....take another look and you'll see it's fixed...
