Stardock Future Gaming (from 2013 perspective) [UPDATE 4]

Stardock Future Gaming (from 2013 perspective) [UPDATE 4]

In the good old days of gaming, the game studios weren’t public and so they could give little sneak peeks and teasers of things they’re working on.

Unfortunately, the number of indie studios is dwindled and so there’s very little spontaneity in what companies share (which the Xbox One unveil showed us can be quite a bummer).

Below is just some artwork from a few of the things that are in development.

That last pic is totally a tease. It is a tessellation of the plane and a typical game board. The real question is how the mechanics work, will it be a true hex system or a square system with hexes for the visual cue instead.

I'm just curious, how could hexes be a visual cue for squares? Squares have either four or eight neighbours; hexes always have six.

I don't see how hex would be harder for AI, if anything I think it would be easier for the reasons given.

I can see it being harder to code/design maps for.

It's in how they use the hex, yes they do only have 6 neighbors, but it is completely plausible to have the tiles be adjacent to a single hex be the 6 connected by lines and the other two that play along a line (looks like a 2 move). I was hoping for more info as these pictures are all looking good, especially the shadows on that archer, and I wouldn't mind more information about these works in progress at the moment.

I hope some of the pics (thumbnails actually) are from GCIII escpecially the hexagon map looks nice and clean design. I really hope to see the GC new version to be a strategy game where the visuals get an upgrade eg. what you build on a planet is not an icon but a 3d building, and not one city but several megacities, terraform and the planet atmosphere, waters and ground change completely and you see that.. not just soil enchachment or habitat imrpvement tiles... no tiles... at all.. more realism pls and no yellow, green, red, purple diamonds for morale, economic etc. bonuses.. instead real resources..

I don't know if really GCIII is really under development but if it is.. I just wanted to say those things while its still early.. I guess.......

That first one looks very Last of Us.

Third one looks like a big tech tree.

That last update looks like Galactic Civilizations to me!

That's a Thalan if I ever saw one. Just more muscular and less colourful than Hithesius.

I'm excitedly assuming GCIII since Brad said outright Twilight was the last expansion.

Elsewhere on the forums Brad said he'd been developing GC's AI for twenty years. If he started in '93 that brings us past the latest update right up to... now.

Froggy, we know that you have GC3 in there! GIVE IT UP!

Seriously, though, why not just announce it and give us what you've got? I will pay you for pre-Alpha access. I need a good sci-fi 4X, after all the disappointments...and I'm certain now with the lessons you've learned from the iterations of Elemental that GC3 will be fantastic.

GIVE IT TO US.

I'd sign up for pre-Alpha!

Yeah I really really really want to get in on alpha builds.

I enjoyed FE and LH, but I'm ready for GCIII now.

I wonder if we'll be able to transfer the new Star Control assets over to a Galciv III mod.

Space games seem passe.

Stardock is moving towards free-to-play social networking games.  You want to rush build? Fine. $1.

Uh huh, no one believes you Brad. Stop trolling :D

I would like to know who made the concept art  O:)

the art looks great. i just hope if there s gal civ 3 it will have turn based combat. and again a complex ship editor !

as far as i m concerned Master of Magic got a few worthy sucessors in the form of Age of Wonders 2 ( and 3 looks pretty damn great as well, hope it delivers ) and Fall from Heaven. Legendary Heroes is also pretty close and might join the club after another expansion.

but worthy replacements to Master of Orion ? none at all .... endless space is all flash - little substance. and while i liked a few things in gal civ ( the editor, the AI, etc. ) .... without proper combat and the imho "soulless" techtree/universe it just wasnt there yet.

a galactic civiliations 3 that keeps the awesome ship editor but adds good combat would jump right next to AoW3 on my most wanted list.
