Stardock Future Gaming (from 2013 perspective) [UPDATE 4]

Stardock Future Gaming (from 2013 perspective) [UPDATE 4]

In the good old days of gaming, the game studios weren’t public and so they could give little sneak peeks and teasers of things they’re working on.

Unfortunately, the number of indie studios is dwindled and so there’s very little spontaneity in what companies share (which the Xbox One unveil showed us can be quite a bummer).

Below is just some artwork from a few of the things that are in development.

4 games in development?  Hope we hear something soon.  Next year I'll really need some PC games.

Are we announcing the one I accidentally heard during lunch with you guys this year?  :dur:

Because Stardock does NOT own the Intellectual Property of Sins. Ironclad owns it. Stardock only published Sins up until Rebellion. Which Ironclad gave permission for Stardock to develop. Ironclad had to approve all of the changes to Rebellion before it could be implemented.

If Stardock was to develop Sins 2. Then Ironclad would have to sell Stardock the IP. Much like how Stardock tried to acquire the IP for Homeworld. OR. It could be a joint effort between Stardock, and Ironclad like Rebellion was. However since Sins is Ironclads baby i think they would go at Sins 2 alone, and keep Stardock as its publisher.

I really would like to see Stardock take a chance at an RTS/Empire Builder themselves in the likes of Homeworld, and Haegemonia, or perhaps something totally original that nobody has seen before.

I realize its Ironclads IP. But Stardock is their publisher for Sins and the thing with publishers is, they have a tendency not to have 2 similar games in their portfolio to compete for sales between them. You dont see Activision going for another Call of Duty, they are fine with just one brand like that. Or StarCraft. And IMHO thats the reason why Mr. Wardell did not go for Homeworld all the way in the end. IMHO he would not even try at all, if Homeworld was not that special.

That said, i would not mind another Sins like game from Stardock. But if i had to choose between Stardocks collaboration with Ironclad on next Sins or their own similar game, i would choose the first option. IMHO they did tremendous job on Rebellion and its the best iteration so far.

My guesses:

  • Galactic Civilizations III - Hell! It's about TIME!
  • Fall From Heaven III
  • Sins of a Solar Empire expansion/DLC
  • Elemental DLC

Reasons:

The cool spaceship highest up tells me "SINS".

The devils tell me FFH because LH have only humanlike beings.

The Elemental picture of the evil woman tells me LH DLC

Galactic Civilizations III is overdue and it's about time  :P

There are at least 4 games represented there.

How are they divided between you and Soren?

#3 is my fave.

Best of luck to you, Stardock!

I second these notions.

My Guesses

1. New game inspired by Alpha Centauri (It really needs to be remade with a modern UI)

2. DLC for Fallen Enchantress  Nixed by Frogboy

3. Galactic Civ

4.  Sins Expansion

(#2) I'm just not sure where the Demon/Fantasy stuff fit in unless its for FE or something completely new

3&4 are a cop out as I hadn't played either

Looks like most of everyone thinks another GC is coming and im all for it!!  My wife would watch me or hours playing that game and it had so many neat features...especially in battle when you could replay them and then I could take pics during it and write stories about it.  Good stuff

Very interesting see the thoughts on this.

There are no Elemental related screenshots there (i.e. no sequels / derivatives / DLC) in there (would be too easy to spot I figured).

The other hint is that those projects started before FE was released.

Soooo... can I be an Alpha tester ;) for these games you are creating...

GalCiv 3

Elemental world RPG

FFH 3

Society

my guesses.

GalCiv 3

FFH 3

Society

my guesses.

I'm guessing your second guess is wrong.

I'm sure that one is a GalCiv 3 or equivalent. Might have a different name to expand on the franchise.

I've heard them talk about the Society game before, so I suspect that one is on there.

I would suspect a Sins 2 type game in the works there at Ironclad / Stardock combo

Finally the last bits is what amounts to be a first person shooter. I wouldn't expect it from Stardock, but definitely in there is the works of a FPS... amazing work.

Frog, are you designing any of the games?

So, let's hear an exclusive reveal now?

"Voyage of the Pandora" quest game?

alpha tester, please....

So are those phase space demons? Or that's what's chasing the vasari lol the first pic

I am going to guess:

  • Legendary Kickball- If you can dodge a wrench, then you can dodge a ball...! That first picture is a demon defending his dodge ball.

  • Space Balls- Oh shit!  There goes the planet!  Stardock might get sued for copying Mel Brooks but I'm up for the Stardock Schwartz.  Second, third, and fifth pictures confirm this.

  • Big Foot: The March for Ice Cream Sandwiches-  That fourth pic is not a demon, it is Big Foot contemplating our doom whilst snaking on a delicious ice cream sandwich.  Play style would be similar to DOTA or Demigod.  Control for frozen dairy treats is a game I have been waiting for my entire life.

  • Interpretative Dancing game- 8th, 10th, and 12th pics looks like they are putting together that interpretive dancing RPG game that Derek's been talking about for ages.  It'll be interesting to see how this one develops.

Things are pretty collaborative here.  I would say Soren and I and Derek are involved in all of them.

I see Gal Civ 3 and an RPG. I have no idea what else I am seeing. My guess on the top one... knife, demon, head, ball... Suicidal Soul Demon Peggle in collaboration with Popcap. But I could be pretty far off on that.

I hope you've taken the amazing lessons you've learned from FE and FE:LH for Galactic Civs 3. The result will probably make me explode.

It's a good time to be a gamer. Especially a 4X gamer. So many good releases lately. It's a second golden age of PC Games.

The two most cartoony pictures seems to be from a pirate game. Will we see a game called  Brad's Pirates?

Otherwise I feel GalCiv3 is a safe bet. That is the title the fans really are longing for, and the market needs a new great TBS Space game. To much RTS released lately, and Endless Space, allthough a decent game, didn't quite reach the leage of GalCiv.

Excellent!  More quality games to waste my money and time on.  No greater calling.

Brad you've done the right thing, a good capability build with the right talent acquisition as any business manager will tell you, tech and process can be replicated and will be, people can't be.  Sounds like you have a good creativity fostering culture as well.

I would love a Stardock developed SOTS2 type game with strat and tactical (MOO3 as it should have been), perhaps GalCiv3 with SoASE like combat and I think you guys can pull it off, esp the AI part.  Hopefully one of these games is that!

If you could roll GalCiv2 and SoASE together it would be bliss!

One of those images has a mouseover title attached to it still.  I notice the others have been generically sanitized.

I won't spoil it further but, "Hehehe".
