[Request] Modding guide

Would it be possible for Stardock, or one or more of the senior modding personages to create a listing of the allowable XML commands and their dependancies for different functions?

This would be of great help to intrepid modders.

I think a lot of us don't have time to do something like this, it is more likely that individual questions will get answered.

It would be nice if Stardock could provide this.  Malfador provided quite a good modding handbook with Space Empires 5

If I had 150-200 hours, I would write up a complete tutorial on a wiki. I just don't have that kind of time. I'm already putting 30-40 hours into updating Stormworld to Children of Storm, which is frankly not very interesting time. I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to actually adding content to the mod instead of just converting old content.

This has been requested of Stardock since FE was in late-beta. I think most of us have given up on waiting for the tools to help mod everything but the very simplest results (new races, etc).

I too can write up a semi-complete tutorial on a wiki, but I do not have this time either.

I feel your pain here Heavenfall. I'd help you out with it, but I know you'd want to do it yourself. I've got a few more mods of my own to update, and just running out of time.

It'd be an open wiki, of course.

Resurrecting this one a little bit - I understand the time issue, and I will continue to ask specific questions as I have them (I'll use the modding questions thread from now on - sorry about starting my own thread for the last question), but this would be incredibly useful.  Just to have a list of Enum definitions, header files, whatever...  some way of knowing what tags and values are reasonable options other than guessing.  A lot of it is gleaned by exploring the game data xml at length, but what about tags or values that aren't used by the base game that might still be valid?

I know Stardock isn't likely to release its source code anytime soon, so it would take some work to sanitize the data in a way that's okay to leak out to the modders, but man it would be helpful.  Consider that I didn't buy Beyond the Sword for Civ 4 until I heard that FfH2* would require it, and also that I consider Civ 4 BTS to be one of my favorite and one of the best strategy games ever developed despite the fact that I only played about 2 games of the non-modded game...  There are probably other people out there like me and probably a lot of promising modders (I'm not counting myself in that group...) that just need some help.

Though I will give a lot of credit to guys like parrotmath and heavenfall who have figured out a lot about the xml data and have done some awesome things with modding (not to mention being very helpful with answering questions).  But there's so much more that we could do if we knew how...

*Not just pandering to Derek here, but if pandering will help...   ^_^
