It would also help if you check your event log in Windows for crash details.  The point where the debug file stops seems to indicate that it didn't even start generating the galaxy before it encountered a problem, causing the crash. Galaxy generation is normally the next step and message generated in a normal debug file.

Hmm, still crashing before or at the start of galaxy generation.

To find your crash report, you can go through Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer, or just type Event Viewer at the search box and it should be the top entry.

On the default view of Event Viewer, you'll see a box titled Summary of Administrative Events.

Under that you will see a set of expandable lists for Critical, Error, Warning, Information and Audit Success.  Expand Errors and look for a recent Gc2TwilightAnror crash log.  Double-clicking will go to that entry.

On the next screen you will see a list of entries at the top and the actual information for the selected entry at the bottom. There are two tabs, General and Details.  Click the Details tab.

On the Details tab there are Friendly and XML radio buttons.  Don't worry about those for now, but if Friendly is selected (it is by default here) expand any entries which aren't expanded (have a + to their left) and then select all the text to copy and paste here.

The crash log will indicate what kind of error occurred.  The error code can be searched online for an explanation.

Well it seems there is no log of it crashing I looked through Error and the rest of them and found none named Gc2TwilightAnror nor anything similarly named. Maybe it isn't called that for my computer?

I'm having the same issues. I recently reinstalled Galciv2 and can't get a new game going. Strangely enough if I continue from an old save the game loads fine but when trying to start a new one it crashes at the same point as OP.

Yep, your issue was caused by corrupted custom race files. You can probably restore them if you care to and just delete the one that was offending.

What point, exactly, is it failing when you're in new game setup? It looks like it's before race selection or immediately after (when customizing). Normally if you have a bad screen file you would have some Dxpack parse errors in the log. Just falling over inexplicably like that tends more to be due to bad XML, but your log indicates you have no customized races and Steam should have fixed any bad core files.

I pick the galaxy settings and such then press next, no character selection or anything.

Crashing midway through setup with an empty my documents/my games/gc2twilightarnor folder would certainly tend to point towards bad files, whether they show in the debug.err or not. If you haven't already, you may try a full reinstall rather than relying on Steam's verification check. Failing that, please email [email protected], they should be able to help further.
