Actual Skeletons? Like really truly for true true?

Firstly, hello to all my old friends  . I've been gone a while, kicking around the internet playing this and that and dealing with life between surgeries. My next one won't be for a few more months at least so here I am greatly looking forward to FE:LH. I got a email from Stardock saying FE:LH had launched it's beta so I gave it a try last night. Looking at the art on the loading screen I see actual skeletons and a lich looking thing in the background. Does this mean there are actually skeletons in the game now? If so this would go a long way towards me wanting to do some more modding and skinning. If so in fact, I think it might finally be time for a update to my old "Undead Rising" mod. I might need to recruit a little help with some coding to make that happen though as it's been so long since I did the last one I don't remember it all now and everything after the first version I had help from the Dragonlance Team doing the coding we needed to get done to make the skins I did show up correctly. Also I'll need to defer to Heavenfall since he's the man now when it comes to modding and I don't want anything I would do to conflict with stuff the other great modders have done.

Thanks for any info. If I would have kept up with things I'm sure I'd know all this already but sadly I haven't been able to. I'll definitely be glad to get back in touch with a lot of my friends here and hopefully have time to do some more modding before I'm forced to disappear again for a bit.

Hey RavenX!

Can't really help you with your project, but just wanted to say it's great to see you again :)

Hey man! It's good to hear from you, and I hope everything is going as well as it can be!

I just about died from excitement when I saw the liches. All the undead stuff they have added for LH is seriously cool.

I tried to make a magic mod awhile back that added new types of magic with their own spell lists and unique sources of power, but the layer of the game that's exposed to us for modding didn't allow me to add the things I wanted to add...

Yes, there are.  And welcome back!

I appreciate that Vallu, thanks brother :). It's good to see you too and I'm glad to be back(ish). I've still got all the free time to do cool stuff like I did before but the meds they have me on now leave me a little foggy. I can use photoshop like a mad man still but that's only because I've been using it for a loooong time. When it comes to even going through the xml I did just to get the initial skins working before the DL Team came along to help me (and remembering how much I had to bug the SD guys to help me out) just thinking about trying to test the files makes my brain feel like I'm on a roller coaster. *insert crazy googly eyed smiley here* lol Though I did manage to get a few custom races into Distant Worlds. That was pretty much just a copy/paste job though.

Hopefully that coding genius Dhuran guy who was part of the team might be around here somewhere.

Speak of the devil look at that!!! hehe Thanks man. Yeah looking over the list of undead stuff they added it looks seriously killer. I haven't seen them yet as I only managed to play for a few hours last night, but I did notice they hooked the in game tiles straight into the tile editor. Looks like a set for kingdom and a set for empires plus the maps other tiles (shards, huts etc etc). It might be pretty simple to make the list of faction specific tiles be used now instead of having to go through it like we did before. I also still have all those undead tiles many of the community members here did and the ones we did. It sucks to hear about the custom spell list and power sources. We can always try bugging the devs for some info/help :).

First I'd just like to take the undead monsters they've added and compile them into a simple playable race with whatever abilities they have normally, or just get a normal playable race to use their models. First goal would be to just get a normal (for undead) playable race with the assets. I tried the workshop faction creator and I didn't see the undead as choosable so I'm guessing they're just monsters at this point? (I know I need to play and see them first) I'm not even sure if we could make the in-game skeleton model wear armor or use weapons or anything like that yet.

I'll start there and see where I can go. Not sure if they'll be adding anything undead-wise between now and the full version, I know this is still beta and that I need to catch up on what I missed. I only played one full game of FE and that was the version it was at when it launched. It was awesome :) . I didn't even know it had patched until I logged into my SD account last night though.

I'll catch up and then see what I can get going on my own, and then if you have the time or if anyone else here on the forums wants in on this we can start where I run into trouble. Also maybe by then we'll have some info about modding in custom power sources and spells and the advanced stuff. I never could use the particle generator worth a damn but I recall there was a guy here on the forums who was a master with it who's advice we can recruit if he's still around or always draw help from our other community members or the devs.

Welcome back! There's no conflict, although Children of Storm will feature a re-done undead faction from Stormworld.

The skeleton models use all the weapons and can wear all the armor that Altar. Also, you may not have noticed that they have a banshee, so there are possibilities for ghost like creatures. They really did a decent job bringing the undead.

Hey bro :) . First thing I gotta say is WOW.. As I'm typing this on one half of my screen I've got a Let's-Play of FE running Stormworld on the other half. You've done Incredible work my friend, that's just Amazing :) . I'm not looking to do anything so grand, you know me. At most I just want to update Undead Rising, fill in the ranks with the new undead assets so I can fill out "Lord Strahd's" army, and of course re-skins since that's my personal strength. You know I'm the resident undead freak and texture skinner, but I'm not looking to convert or change game-play mechanics, just bring in the undead as a single faction to mix in with the vanilla factions with a power source of death shards, nothing fancy.

When I left off I was going by D&D type abilities (as close as Elemental would allow) to bring in Lord Strahd as a vampire sovereign with his undead legion. Now with LH I can also bring in "Lord Soth" as his starting Hero. It sounds like now there's the proper assets to bring in ghosts and other types of normal undead we'd expect from old school D&D and a proper vampire and a death knight shouldn't be a problem.

Once I bring in/update the faction that'll be it for me, aside from re-skins and texture packs. I'm a skinner. I'll redo my "Realism" skin packs (only better) now that I can use photoshop in conjunction with the new Bamboo tablet. Using the new tools I can make my old skins look clumsy by comparison, and I love re-skinning the existing assets. If anything I'd just want to make sure anything I do is compatible with yours and I definitely wouldn't want my undead faction as a replacement for yours. If in the end you deem it worthy to exist in the Universe you've created out of FE then I (and I'm sure anyone who would help me) would be honored. If not, as long as it can run along with yours and let the player just add more undead variety that's good with me. I don't want anything I would do that a player would want to use to interfere with anything you've done.

Any skin packs I do would over-write vanilla assets as a usable on/off mod. Those should be compatible with both the base game and any/all existing mods per player choice. For me it's just a manner of getting the coding done to make them show up and re-learn what I did with my earlier skin packs to make them show up in game without breaking anything lol.

When it comes to what I'll be doing I'll defer to the master modder, brother, and that's you. As always if there's any skins you want (or anyone else once I get back to making edits) I'll be happy to help. I'm thinking after the base races I want to get to some of the animals and monsters this time as well.

That's really awesome news, parrot, thanks :).

It's great to know because there's a lot of us crazy undead fans out there and any fantasy game without a few good implementations of them just seems off....and we can't have that, no, not at all....mwhahahaha....er, um...I mean, that's awesome :)

I'm not sure if this is what you asked, but I don't want to include it in Children of Storm. I'm trying to keep it as much "mine" as possible - not that it is all mine. I'm using your elven skins and your zombie skin, for example. And thank you for that.

But to include the XML would mean it has to be updated, and it has to follow the same standards and formats as the other factions in the mod. And, ultimately, it's an aesthetic choice; I don't necessarily think there's much point to having two undead factions in the same game or mod.

True, and I'd say that's a good call too. I wasn't asking for Undead Rising (UR) to be part of yours. Honestly I wouldn't deem it worthy. You've made your own universe with Stormworld and Children of Storm. I thought you were changing some of the mechanics though? Wouldn't that make it more than just a aesthetic choice? Or maybe I'm wrong and yours isn't changing anything game-play wise.

I'd very much like to re-do the Zombie skin for my new version of UR (new zombie is far more gory) and add the other undead units now that they are there. My old skins are still good but my new ones are far better. I definitely don't want mine being incompatible with other's mods either, but I'm not looking to re-invent the wheel either like you've done my friend.

In D&D "Ravenloft" was it's own dimension and I really liked the idea of it transporting Lord Strahd (and now also Lord Soth) into Elemental. Also while playing last night I saw the new skeleton model and one of the NPCs even mentioned how "Vampires don't exist" when I got a quest riddle wrong lol (not real in game huh? hehe), so I thinking bringing that forward into LH will be a good project for me.

Also, if you want me to update or redo any of the skins you'll be using just say so. Like I said up top though any skin packs I do should be compatible with any mods or the base game so which ever the player chooses to play they can either use the skins or not and it won't interfere with anything else, just change the looks.

I was looking over other posts here in the modding forums and some of the conversations about the XML just look like Greek to me so obviously I won't be doing any advanced scripting like you  can do my friend nor will I be changing mechanics. I always wanted UR as a stand alone race add-on for the base game anyway, so it's all good with me brother.

Besides, if I can't find some other help with the XML parts I'll need to do and how to update the old one for the new game, I'll be coming to you :)
