Mass Effect Total Conversion for TA

Hi all,

I LOVE this game. Ever since I first played it all I could think about was a Halo mod. Since then I've done just a small face lift with my current game. I have made the major races in the Mass Effect Universe.Adding the rest of the minor Council races would just be done in time...

  • System Alliance (Human)
  • Turian Hierarchy (Turians)
  • The Migrant Fleet (Quarrians)
  • The Geth (Geth)
  • The Salarian Union (Salarians)
  • The Hedgmony (Batarians)
  • The Asari Republics (Asari)

Those are all I have so far. I know there are more races but all I have done is create the races, and add custom logos/race portraits. Honestly that has been good enough for my inner fanboy, but I realized there is a ton of talent here that could help me add a custom map, and some models for ships.

Another idea I had with TA.

Possible to make the Reapers replace the Dread Lords? Arnor with Protheans?

I want to do tech, too. But for me the aesthetics are enough for now.

Thanks for reading!

The Dread Lords cannot be modded.

Not entirely correct. While they are mostly hardcoded, some parts can be changed, like their tech tree (and therefore planetary improvements and weapons/defenses), their race entry (AIP, ability bonuses, starting techs, etc.), and the Arnorian ships. No idea, if they can be renamed. I never tried that.

Thanks for the speedy reply Gaunathor.  I wanted to change the type of mine output so that I could derive benefit from the asteroid mining when I was doing an all labs game. To speak more clearly, currently in an all labs game I can see no benefits coming in from the mines.  I checked if it benefited ship building, social projects or research and it did not - (because I do all my ship and social projects using research focus).

I had hoped that it would be possible to change the xml file to adjust the output from the mines from pure industrial to (industrial/research).  It's no huge deal, but I just hate to have something built into the game be unusable (and the mines look good on the screen).

Since I have your attention for a second, I noticed that you referenced the file in the DA folder. I am playing TofA (Ultimate Edition) and playing TofA.  Does your reply indicate that many of the base game files used in a TofA game are actually located in the DA folder?  This seems a bit strange to me, but correct me if I am wrong but did Stardock do a tiering system where the game backwards looks at mods/tofa/DA/DL when selecting what to load?

Sxandy, could you explain to me why you are copy-pasting Purdypog's reply from this thread?
