The Game Is Broke

Warning to anybody thinking of purchasing this game!

1. I'll say it again. My character beats an enemy NPC mob and then automatically goes onto that mobs tile without looting. The only way I can loot the tile is if I move off the tile and then back onto the tile. At the beginning of the game this probably happens 2 out of 5 tiles.

2. When a unit spawns out of a city into an army outside the city that has no movement left, the spawned unit automatically loses it's movement as well.

3. Enemy NPC magically make their own grown habitable tiles for a city. This has happened within 10 turns of a game so unless they are using some type of fast-advance leveling system then they are either cheating or all the inhabitable tiles are not showing up on my screen.

4. Needs to be a way to tell if an enemy will attack an adjacent player. Go by a mob 3 times and it doesn't attack. But when you try to go by him a 4th or 5th time, it suddenly attacks. Usually this happens when you are beating the enemy AI...well isn't that convenient... Again, no skill involved. Have every freakin' mob in the game attack my character while the AI player walks right by? Just park a deadly Dragon right by the starter city every time and make it attack on the first turn for a quick game over... saves time and is just as fun!

Plenty of positives overshadow these negatives. Why so frustrated?

There's an option to turn off spawning units outside of the city.

Well, now you know that the monsters on the map are dangerous.  So stop tempting them!

I agree with your sentiment though.  The game could do more to give the user visual cues to new players that certain behavior is dangerous.  It seems obvious, but it's not intuitively understood that the monsters on the map will attack you if you look like easy prey.

I don't think buckdulane is willing to get into an honest discussion at all, he just wants to tell other people that he thinks the game is crap, that Stardock is crap and that no one should buy it. He is not interested in helping or discussing, see his first post.

Well, I haven't tried .87 yet, but units did not do that prior to .87.  So, if they are entering the monster's tile as a result of combat, it must be something introduced in .87 and I'm sure it will be fixed.  You need to calm down and remember that this is a beta!!!!  Be happy that are being given a chance to try out the game during beta and provide suggestions and bug fixes!

Buckdulane could do with dropping the inflammatory language but the points seem like legitimate ones to make.

Really, who needs to deal with jerks like this? There's plenty of people who can point out bugs, like me, and with me the only price is putting up with goofy jokes!

We don't need this righteous victim to bring us all down. Plenty of people like him will suck you dry if you let it happen. And for him, there are other games out there if this one is such an offense.

All right, fair enough, for some my jokes are probably painful.

Maybe he's editing his post since you guys read it, but it doesn't sound that inflammatory to me.  He just lists 4 problems that annoy him more than the other problems with the game (although 4 might not be valid).

1. I've seen this since I started playing FE in January.  How to reproduce?  Get your army 1 tile away from a monster's lair, and then click to move to that lair, so you use your last point of movement moving right next to it.  If that monster attacks you, and you win, your army will automatically move into the lair tile, however they will not loot it.  The only reason I don't see this problem anymore is because I've gotten used to not pathing further than a single turn.  There are many problems with pathing beyond the immediate turn, and I'd rather not deal with them.  Never leave your units with a destination at the end of a turn.  It would be nice if they'd just fix the bugs, though.

2. It would be best if you could choose where your unit will move to when exiting the city.  The option to not do this is to have your units automatically stationed inside your city, which means you have to pay attention to the log on the right to see when you've made new units, or just keep track of it mentally, neither of which really work for me.  I'll just end up with stationed units that don't get used for a while.  If they spawned on the city square instead, that would work, because then I'd still see them in the Empire tree, but I'd choose where they leave the city.  Also, since they implemented that workaround for a bug where units on top of a city tile auto-station at the end of the turn, it would still work like auto-stationing.  Now if they'd just implement that change...

3. I've seen a lot of complaints about this, but I've never seen it happen myself.  I think people are seeing it by using the cheat to turn off fog of war, and watching what the AI does, which makes sense to do for a beta.

4. Monsters don't always attack.  I think there's a chance that they will attack, and that chance increases when you're army is weaker, and decreases when your army is stronger.  I know that they're less likely to attack AI players on higher difficulties (although this seems to have been lessened in recent versions, as it used to be that on Insane, monster would never attack the AI players, but now I see it happen sometimes).  However, if you're seeing a definitive pattern that they always attack on the 4th or 5th pass, then that would be a problem.  I think that, instead, you're seeing a monster not attack once or twice, and you assume they're not ever going to attack, which is a false assumption.  Just because a monster doesn't attack you this turn doesn't mean they won't attack.  But, if you try to move a weak army by a strong monster, that monster is most likely (but not definitively) going to attack.

While he lists legitimate grievances, calling the game "broken", because of them, is nothing but hyperbole. "Broken" implies, that the game doesn't work at all (or is at least missing most of it's features), which isn't the case for FE. I'm not entirely sure, but I think he did edit the OP since the last time I read it. Too bad you can't tell, like with regular posts.

I've seen it happen myself, and I never used any cheats. It could be related to the AI's ability to settle on goodie huts, resources, and other ineligible tiles.
