Random Event - Precursor Device Makes Race Supremely Powerful

I was starting to play again after a few years away.  I received a random event notice in my current game that the Iconians have found a precursor device that makes them become more powerful over time and eventually my race will have to sucumb to them unless we do something about it.  I don't recall seeing this event before.  What is the impact?  Currently the Iconians are near the bottom in terms of power and economy in our galaxy.  Will they be given increasing benefits?  Free warships?  Free tech?  Will it just be a cheesy autowin for them on a timer?  What am I dealing with here?  Will I need to blitz the Iconians or can I take my time getting to them?  They're on the other side of my gigantic galaxy and it will be a pain to get to them if I'm on a short timer.

Anyone have any guidance for me on this scenario?  Is there a resource that lists all the potential events and their reprecussions that I can review for future games?  Thanks in advance for any advice.

I have never checked myself but as I heard their civ wide abilities will continuously increase.

If you have a high intel level on the Iconians, you might consider looking at their racial stats and jotting them down.  Then, maybe 10 turns later, check to see what changes have occurred to those numbers.  IIRC, the event causes incremental positive changes in racial abilities every x number of turns.

This event has happened in a few of my games over the years and never seemed to change anything, especially when the lucky race was low in the galactic pecking order.

There are two versions of this event. The normal one slowly increases two or three abilities over time, while the Mega Event version increases all abilities by +1% per week. The later one can potentially be quite dangerous if left unchecked. However, as it is the weakest race that gets one of these events, the bonuses are usually too little too late. The recipient rarely survives long enough to become a true danger.

That's why I suggested monitoring the "lucky" race.  As I said, I've had that event many times but it never seemed to affect the course of the game.

Thanks for the suggestion about monitoring their progress via Espionage.  I was building up to a High level of intel and here's where I can begin.  If I see it's getting out of hand I'll have to start planning something or influence the nearby Drengin to go rought them up a bit.  I think if it's a gradual increase in ability the Iconians are just too far behind in money, influence and size to be able to overcome their quadrant of the galaxy let alone the rest of the playing field. I was just afraid there would be some autolose situation in a set amount of time.

Cool!

Please post what you learn!  I, for one, would be very interested in it.

Whenever I get this event, I pray it is the Mega-event one, which could provide a challenging opponent in the end game. Sadly, the afflicted race always dies much earlier, or has to be kept alive artificially by yours truly... Which makes the end game fight not challenging at all...
