Registration doesn't work

Preordered on steam but when I try to start the game I am sent to a registration form that doesn't work.

Here is part of the error code (the same message is repeated a few more times):

Silent mode

Mode 2

Submitting activation request...

Download: failed HttpSendRequest

Result parsing error (1)

Error activating the product

Please ensure the serial number entered is associated with the email you used and attempt to activate again. Include this log file if contacting support.

Using silent activation with null serial mode.

By the way, isn't it kind of redundant to have a game protected by valves anti-copy measures and require an activation at stardock? And by the way my stardock account already existed and worked (Fallen Enchantress had already been registered to this account).

I'm also getting the same error.  I also can't activate GalCivII.  I had previously activated GalCivII on my previous PC (Win7), but I get an error while trying to activate it on my newer PC (Win8).  I tried activating both with my firewall and antivirus off, and I'm still getting the same errors upon trying to activate.

I don't think I had problems activating FE (3 weeks or so ago), as I can play that.

Are you also using Windows 8?

Please contact [email protected] about this, they should be able to help.

It's the only way to make sure we have records of the Steam key registrations, so we can do stuff like special deals in the future for early adopters, etc; Steam won't tell us who has the game or not.

Already sent an e-mail to your support but I thought a post in the forum might get me a quicker solution. I have never had trouble with steam downloads yet - this is a first for me. Also it is a first that a game sold via steam requires an additional activation at the publisher. That is the second reason why I posted in the forum: You should really consider dropping this redundant activation process. It isn't exactly customer friendly and seems to add additional sources for problems.

I've since managed to get the activation working by setting Internet Explorer as my default browser instead of Firefox.  I'm not really sure how this helped, but my best guess is that Firefox was somehow blocking my activation by being the default browser, even though I had no browsers open while trying to complete the activation process.

Thanks for the tip - it worked for me as well (actually it was enough to open windows explorer while I registered). Seems Mozilla Firefox doesn't like Stardock. ;)

this most likely has to do with the pop up blocker in firefox at least that is my guess

btw i have Google Chrome set as my default browser and I did not have any problems.

I have Firefox as my default browser, and didn't have any problems.  If it's Firefox, it must be some specific setting that I'm not using that's causing it.
