GalCiv2 Ultimate Edition version(s)

Hello all,

I would like to properly understand what game I have and which one I'm playing,
reading some of the relevant threads only confused me further. :grin:

I have bought a GalCiv2 Ultimate Edition DVD from Kalypso, which I understand to be the european retail as opposed to the US one.
I have updated it a first time through Stardock Central to 1.something (it would be nice if it would show the ver.# somewhere, I cannot find it) and then proceeded to the next update to 2.04, or so I thought.

Because the second time the SDC updater apparently downloaded and installed the whole game anew in a different folder, so that now I have two different instances of GalCiv2. I attach the pics of the launchers (note the difference about the switching chapters ability).

There seem to be no updates available on the Kalypso page for their Ultimate Edition, not even a dedicated section.
Are the two the same (Kalipso 1.smthg = SDC 2.04)? Which one would I use?
I would like to play through one launcher only, so as to maintain the saved games and custom ships, use the metaverse and mods.
I guess the SDC one is the way to go but I'd like to make sure.

Use the SDC one, that is the same I play.

Using SDC, can one still play DA or DL?  

That is, the one on the left had the "Switch Chapter" choice, but I do not see that on the SDC one.

Yes. Go to the game folder and use the GalCiv2.exe for DL and the GC2DarkAvatar.exe, in the DarkAvatar sub-folder, for DA.
