Sword Of The Stars: The Pit

Ok Kerb's first Kickstarter is out Sword of the Stars: The Pit. A fun (your gonna die clown your gonna DIE) rouge like rpg. Can you survive 30 level of the pit and find the cure to save your world? It is lore rich and all about randomization. This game weapon mods might to this but the next game they will do something different, same with traps, and many other items. I got to level 12 on hard (love the engi)... Must keep going.

About the Game

A deadly plague ravages your world. Your last hope: a legendary alien facility dug deep into the Feldspar Mountains...a massive Pit, built by the ancient Suul'ka.

If 'The Pit' really exists, there might be something left. Something that will give your doctors a fighting chance at the cure.

All you know for sure is that every expedition into those mountains has failed to return...

And Nothing Sows Death Like the Suul'ka.

Quamdiu Poteris Superesse?

Sword of the Stars: The Pit is a fun, fast, light-hearted turn-based RPG, where the tradition of Rogue and other old school dungeon-diving games meets the sci-fi Sword of the Stars universe, where the question to ask isn't "Did you make it to the end?" so much as "How far did you make it into The Pit before the monsters got you?"

Be brave, press on for the sake of your planet, and when all else fails, go out in a blaze of glory!

Key Features

  • 3 Characters to choose from... Marine, Scout and Engineer! (they level different, play different, & they start with different items)
  • 30 Levels of ancient evil science between you and the cure! (4 difficulties, harder it is the more unique stuff you will find and its all randomized levels each game)
  • Improve your character and increase your skills as you try and find a way to survive the depths. (swords, shotguns, pistols, assault rifles, knifes, grenades, go fisticuffs, etc...)
  • Dozens and dozens of enemies drawn from the Sword of the Stars universe! (harder difficulties more unique enemies)
  • Over 50 weapons and armors with a variety of special effects including flamethrowers, rocket launchers, plasma cannons and powered Brawler armor! (Loads & loads of items)
  • Randomized augmentation effects (for your equipment... and for you!) make each game unique.
  • Crafting lets you make special items from bits and pieces of your enemies. (sandwich makes you strong but it might kill you too)
  • Over 100 items to discover, ranging from the familiar to ancient exotic tech. (load up on everything soldier your gonna need it)
  • Dozens of room types containing a host of exotic devices to help - or maybe hinder - your progress. (look a friendly medical station NO WAIT A torture device NOOOOO)
  • Discover and decipher hidden messages, crafting recipes, and pieces of Sword of the Stars lore! (Sots lore rich game)
  • Many fiendish ways to die including poisoning, disease, traps, radiation, starvation and of course... MONSTERS. (watches those corners marines they will kill you!)

Now offtopic, Kerb's 3 guys working on Sots 2 get most of the money from this game so they are getting paided again for Sots 2 support duty. The Pit is selling well. Sots 2 is still getting updates. Strategic and tactical ai is the focus. Big updates every month and a half. Patches every week.

Also there will be another kickstarter for another Sots game. Mecron loves tank warfare. Sol-Force General, as in, panzer general? a turn based strategy game? hex based with all sorts of details on sotsverse ground units?
My guess it will start in spring or summer. This will also support Kerb and Sots 2 post support.

And yep they are working on the next expansion for Sots 2 (new race with new ftl and its focus is ground combat, new ground combat for all races, new tech (new tech tree), new ships & new ship sections, mining ships & mining mission ie send IO to this system, more minors?, more randoms?, more grands?, etc...) Which means Paradox will support Kerb on new stuff (not post support). I wonder if random maps generator will finally return or maybe the expansion after this one?

I wish them well, but SotS lore was pretty crappy in my opinion (not one shared by everyone).  I think I'll pass for now.

Mind Games expansion comes late June or July. 2 new characters Human Psi Agent and Tarkas Hunter. And more goodies.

I don't think I would buy anything from these jokers ever again.  Mega fail company.

The Pit wasn't a fail, its in the top 6 most viewed games on twitch. Its got strong sales going for it and tons of good reviews.

He said Kerberos was a fail, not The Pit.  That remark is not completely invalid considering how long it has taken SotS2 to become playable.

And how long it has taken Elemental to become playable?  I'm not criticising anyone, but once you've released a buggy game, it takes a LONG time to clean it up.  But if a company does it twice THAT's when it is worth majorly taking into account.

Kerb- small dev team, small budget and depth of Sots 2 is huge ie game design stand point (the ai is already way smarter than sots 1 ai but it still has to fully grasp and master it.) Its got a good heart beat now and getting better. Those weekly updates are still coming. I guess this counts too Vancouver is the most expensive city in Canada and has consumed lots of game companies. (glad I live in Michigan)  No one does better combat than Sots 2, yes better ui and smart ai out there (for the moment).

Stardock- bigger team, way more resources (read that Stardock report they doing good, publishing, games and software money coming in and Brad sold impulse and look at that awesome people he is hiring cant wait for future products). Kerbs only got games.

Again The Pit is doing good, next kickstarter launches soon, pit expansion in June/July. Hopefully they will be hiring this spring/summer. Meaning bigger updates. There are rumors of launching Pit and new KS on other devices... Those little games support Kerb. The Sots 2 programmers went without pay for almost 2 months. Though the Pit money goes into their pockets and into Kerb.

And just a reminder for next kickstarter think along the lines of Sol-Force General and hex based with all sorts of details on sotsverse ground units. Only hinted image-

Oh ya one more thing, beating The Pit on Insane takes 24 hours... for a 9$ game that's money well spent. Its a damn steal. Also been enjoying those free updates for The Pit.

Okay then. When Kerberos have made amends with Sots2 to the same degree as Stardock has with the elemental series, then I may consider their future titles.  But until that happens.......it burns the hands. ;)

Understandable. ;)

I'll keep folks updated. (I don't think we will get another free expansion ie SD with FE and LH but things will get better its just a matter of time)
