Live tile appears to be stuck

I'm not sure whether to link this to MM, but I haven't observed this behavior before installing. On Windows 8 mail app, reading new messages does not clear the last message update on the live tile. For instance on boot-up I get 3 new messages from more than one email account. I open the app and read them, but the live tile does not update those messages as read. This has happened twice now.

In case this is useful, Some experimenting I've done:

 

- Turning live tile off and on does not clear the old update.

- Closing the app and cycling the live tile does not clear the update.

- Hard closing (right click the sidebar item and "close") and cycling live tile does not clear the update.

- Unpinning app and repinning and then cycling live tile does not clear the update.

To try next:

- Put computer into sleep mode.

- Reboot.

I'm an idiot. I searched for "live tile" but not "mail app" and didn't see the other thread. Really jumped the gun. So sorry.
