Switching a Modern App from Windows Start to Desktop, and/or back to Win Start

Hi:

I'm a very happy Start8 user and read a couple of great reviews about ModernMix.  Install went OK.  I run a Windows 7 style Start8, and I'm not sure of the correct procedure to select a Windows app to start on the Desktop.  So I searched "USA" and USA Today (a Windows Start Menu app) came up and loaded in a desktop windows as advertised.  Everything seems to work fine.  It appears that Modern apps on the Windows Start Page don't start in the desktop unless previously started from within the desktop itself.  If that's the case, how can I then start USA Today back in the Windows Start Page without it opening on the desktop?

Thanks, and keep up the great work.  -Jack

It sounds like you have not configured ModernMix fully yet.

It has two settings for what to do when an app opens, one for when loaded from the desktop and one for when loaded from the Win8 menu.

Both have use last state checkboxes and I imagine that is causing you the problem here.

If you want apps to load fullscreen when from the win8 menu and in a window when from Start8, uncheck the use last state settings and set the two modes to fullscreen and windowed respectively.

Thanks Neil:

You were correct as to what was causing my problem with trying to open an app from the Windows Start Page and it opening up in the desktop.  I followed your advice and things are working fine now.

With respect to the first part of my original question; can I access Windows Apps from my desktop via Start8 without changing the style of my start menu?  I'm currently running Windows 7 style.  It would be nice if I had a right-hand side shortcut that would list the Windows Apps, or a folder within All Programs that would do the same.  Is that something I could do myself?

Thanks again Neil.  -Jack

Start8 lists modern UI applications under all programs under the Modern UI applications folder.
