[Bug] Where did the FE styled text go?

Good Morning

So, I installed 1.32, and immediately felt that the smooth FE style text is missing. I recall the long threads about 'EQUIP" and how the letters just smoothly interacted.....well, I'm getting none of that anymore.

Even items like "Quests" on the left hand side....it no longer reads the whole word instead only showing "Qu..."

I think something is gibbled...

Anyone else experiencing this?

Here are some links:

edit:

Started a new game to check if the problem persisted with 1.32 version and it does:

Update:

Figured I would do a complete FE wipe on my computer and reinstall without mods in case something else was causing this perculiar glitch. (even wiped the registry)

Problem persists.

Has no one else experienced this in ver 1.32?

Text was fine in 1.3, and I didn't play 1.31 so I can't speak to whether or not the error was there.

In an effort to somehow diagnos this, here are the files in my Fonts dir:

BankGthd.ttf
Bo Chen Font.ttf
Register.ini
segoeui.ttf
seguib.ttf
TEMPSITC.TTF
TrajanPro-Bold.ttf

Register.ini reads as follows:

[Settings]
Count = 4

[Font0]
FaceName = BankGothic Md BT
FileName = BankGthd.ttf

[Font1]
FaceName = Trajan Pro
FileName = TrajanPro-Bold.otf

[Font2]
FaceName = Tempus Sans ITC
FileName = TEMPSITC.TTF

[Font3]
FaceName = Segoe UI SemiBold
FileName = seguisb.ttf

In the main dir there is a file called FontSwap.ini. The file reads as follows:

; FE font replacement table
; Also allowed are
; VOffset = to shift the text up or down
; VOffsetCent = to shift the text up or down when centred
; SizePadding = to be used if the vertical font spacing needs increasing / the game does not allocate enough room
; verically
; WeightNoDWrite is used as an override for Weight when on non DirectWrite capable platforms.  Sometimes this needs to be
; different to DirectWrite. If it has no value it is replaced with the value in Weight =

; If a value is not defined the original value is used
; Special is set of the font is bold sometimes
; Add ForcePink = 1 to make that font appear bright pink in game.  Useful for identifying the font in use

; HeightPercentIncrement to increase by a percentage = 100 means 100%
; SmallHeightPercentIncrement and SmallHeight used for fonts < 12px and is in addition to Height

[Global]
; set to 1 to replace all text with the font name
ShowNames =
NoItalicsXP = 0

[Arial Weight 400]
Face=

[Trajan Pro Weight 400]
Face=

[Tahoma Weight 700]
Face= Segoe UI SemiBold
Weight = 400
WeightNoDWrite = 400
Special = 1
SmallHeight = 1
Height = 1
DWriteHeightDiff = -1

[Trajan Pro Weight 700]
Face=

[Tahoma Weight 400]
Face= Segoe UI
SmallHeight = 1
Height = 1
DWriteHeightDiff = -1

[Times New Roman Weight 400]
Face= Trajan Pro

[BankGothic Md BT Weight 400]
Face=

[Times New Roman Weight 700]
Face =

[Verdana Weight 400]
Face=

[Verdana Weight 700]
Face=

[Arial Weight 700]
Face=

Does any of this look out of sorts?

everything looks good (thanks for providing all the great info).  What OS is this?  Is it 32 or 64 bit?

k, im going to try to repro it here.

If you are unsuccessful in the repro, could I obtain links to the full ver 1.3 and ver 1.31, and upgrade to 1.31 ?? (as currently I only have the 1.32 full and upgrade files on my machine)

I'll download them all, and systematically install versions and upgrades to see which ones produce the proper fonts on my system and which ones don't, hopefully helping you diagnose what the problem might be...

I figured I'd start diagnosing by trying the following:

Installed ver 1.32 full version from clean system. -- Font problem persists
Installed ver 1.32 update overtop of 1.32 full version. -- Font problem persists

(it was a long shot, but I figured maybe the update didn't have the problem.)

On a side note, are the fonts suppose to be found within the windows/fonts directory after install?

Im not able to repro it here.  No, the fonts aren't installed in your windows/fonts directory.  Please send me your debug file so I can see if it gives any errors.

Debug File sent to [email protected]with subject heading: attn: Derek Paxton -- [Bug] Where did the FE styled text go?

Still wouldn't mind if I can get access to 1.3, 1.31, and updates for 1.3, and 1.31.

The problem didn't exist in 1.3 to begin with, so if I do a complete wipe and reinstall 1.3, the problem should still not exist. If it does, I know it's something with my computer. If it doesn't, I know it's something with a future update. Having the 1.31 files will allow me to check if the problem is there (cause I skipped that update and whent straight to 1.32). Hopefully this diagnosis would/will help you determine where the problem starts...

Lastly, I don't know the debug.err file all that well, but the font problem does persist right from the get go, aka, starting menu. Hopefully the debug file tracks the menu system too.

Thanks for your efforts.

If you have the 1.00 original version install, I can share the 1.3 update (and also 1.31 and 1.32 if needed).

Just uploading 1.3 update to Dropbox now.

EDIT: Uploaded https://dl.dropbox.com/u/8710134/Elemental%20Fallen%20Enchantress%201.30.exe

EDIT2: Uploaded 1.31 update https://dl.dropbox.com/u/8710134/Elemental%20Fallen%20Enchantress%201.31.exe

NOTE: Let me know when you've successfully downloaded and installed so I can remove the files.  Thanks!

NOTE2: If you need the 1.00 install, you'll need to get it from Stardock as it is over 3GB.

Thanks for the files!

I'm done downloading them.

Alas, I don't have 1.0 anymore. Painfully, upon release of 1.32 my harddrive filled and I needed to clean....so I deleted 1.0 and 1.3. doh!

However, with 1.31 update, I can try to backwards update ;). We'll see what happens.

If Stardock won't give you access to 1.00, I can always burn it to a DVD and send it to you.  Where do you live?  Is it in the US?

However, Stardock, are you able to give GFireflyE access to the 1.00 version install?

Okay. Tried the backwards update.

Installed 1.32 Full.
Than installed 1.3 update. --> Font problem persisted.
Than installed 1.31 update. --> Font problem persisted.
Than installed 1.32 update. --> Font problem persisted.

Don't know if backwards update is even the way to go here, but I figured I'd give it a try.

I think the next step from my end is to require the 1.3 full version. I can than do a full wipe and install 1.3 full and see if the problem exists. If it does, I know that something has changed on my machine...

I'm not sure a backwards update would work.  I think it would check for a previous update and update from that, or only change the things that were different between the version installed and the update's version of the files.

It did backwards update. At least, that's what the log in the bottom right corner of the menu screen said. Whether or not the game actually receeded to a previous state...don't know, but figured I'd give it a try.

Hmm, it might work then.  But you'd need to compare the "downdating" with "updating" to see if there are any differences.  But it does seem that it might work.

@Derek

Would it be possible for me to get access to the full 1.3 download on my stardock account for a day or two so that I can redownload.

I would very much like to iron out this potential bug/glitch, at the very least, so that I won't experiance it in ver 1.4 when released.

Thanks

For the curious, this issue has been resolved via email conversation.

In the end, it was determined that he was missing files that should have come from the installer and placed in the appropriate places.  A full uninstall of the game, a reboot of the machine, and then a full install of the game solved the issue.

Just wanted to put it out there in case anyone else had the issue and was reading this thread for a solution.

You beat me to it.

Yes, the issue has been resolved.

Turns out the full 1.32 version I downloaded from SD was corrupted somehow. When I redownloaded the same file and installed, problem was gone.

and no....steam download would not be better. :P
