Steam vs Stardock versions

I bought this during beta .952 (late jumper, i know).

 

I bought the game from Stardock, and the DLC map pack. I read something about the new expansion requiring a steam key, and owners of that expansion getting the DLC Map Pack for free. I am bothered by this, because at the time the Map Pack was released, it was NOT announced that it would be a "freebie" with the expansion.

 

I would like to know where/how to get a steam key so when the expansion beta is released, i may acquire it. However, I also want to note that there is an unfairness that people are now getting for free something I had to pay for. I wish I would have known I could wait until the first expansion so I could save the money.

Owners of the expansion wont get the map pack for free unless they own the mappack for FE.

It's the same mappack, the only reason it is a question at all is because FE and FE:LH are 2 separate products.  But we don't want people who own the mappack for FE to have to buy it again, so we are giving it to them in both games (its the same mappack).

Will it be possible to add a gift bought map-pack later on when steam keys for early adopters are distributed with LH or not? No ill feelings if not. I'd just like to know if I can use the map-pack myself or have to gift it on for someone to use it. (if not, another sale of FE is sure to come sometime down the road and I whouldn't die by offering Stardock another buck and steam another half of a buck for having enjoyed FE the hours I did...)

It will be interesting to see if STEAM allows one to gift to himself or his/her own account. Let us know.

My experience has been that if the set can be split, Steam will automatically gift what you already own.  At checkout it will notify you what can/will happen if you own all or a portion of what's in your cart.  I've had both, splittable packs/bundles and ones where I'm stuck with the surplus, presumably defined by the publisher or developer.

Im just worried that I would have FE + Map Pack on Stardock and LH on Steam, and not be able to use them together.

 

As for "What I get with this game", I am satisfied with "What I have gotten". I got exactly what I wanted; to experience a game from mid-late beta onward who got to enjoy watching the game grow from its great potential to what it has now.

 

For that matter, I also look forward to "What is to come" or, "What I will get" as this continues.
