Crash on load of game, fresh install from Steam.

I just installed FE on steam.  Crash to desktop on load, 3-4 seconds into the load process.  Seriously?

I looked around on the forum, seems that setting steam and/or FE to administrator was a common solution, no luck.

Here is my debug err. http://pastebin.com/h4Mh7D1G

Despite being a crash, there is no zip file of any kind in my game directory - \Steam\steamapps\common\Elemental Fallen Enchantress.  Possibly because it crashes so early?

I have an Asus K73SV, Nvidia 540M GPU, no issues with other games.

DirectX isn't recognizing your video card.  Can you update your drivers (it's showing your current drivers are over 2 years old).  Please let us know if you still see this after your drivers are updated.

Dxdiag never successfully recognizes Nvidia cards that use the Optimus technology on a laptop.  There isn't a good workaround either, that I know of.  I've been searching for such a workaround to no avail, so that I can get you to believe I have the card that I say I do

There's another user having crashes a few seconds into the game.  In his case, he had the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M card, which also has the Optimus tech.  As you probably know, Optimus basically decides whether you need to use the Nvidia card (for gfx-intense stuff), or the integrated card (better battery life for less intensive tasks).  It switches automatically for you.  My thought is that this switching could interfere with the game and cause it to crash.

I have suggested to him, and yet to hear back, that he disable Optimus and see if the game still crashes.  Or to add the game in his nVidia preferences so that it doesn't need Optimus to decide which card to use.

Please do the same and let us know if that worked out for you.

Thanks.
