Skin Uploads and their Screenshots

A recent submission to Wincustomize met with queries/concerns regarding the use of an image as background wallpaper in displaying the Application Skin.

If you upload a skin, icon, cursor, whatever to the site and display it/them on a background which is NOT of your making it would be most appropriate to post credit for the wallpaper/image used, and, more importantly indicate the wall/image is NOT included within the skin submission/archive.

If on the other hand the image/wall IS INCLUDED please do not forget to again post credit AND include permission for its use within the submission archive. :)

Good manners govern in the former, the rules in the latter. O tempore, o mores.

Good advice but what if the wallpaper is old and you do not know who to credit for it. I know...don't use it...right.

Dumb question

You can use it within the screenshot, however you cannot include it with the skin download.

Also, as with any reproduced wall image within a screenshot it is appropriate to partially obscure the wall [as would be the case anyway- displaying a skin] to render it difficult to extract by someone to reuse as a wall.

And if it isn't yours....it's appropriate to say so whether author known or not...;)

If I well remember ...

https://www.wincustomize.com/upload-guidelines

  • ScreenShots must have the main portion of the wallpaper obscured. The wallpaper needs to be covered enough to make extracting it from the SS extremely difficult. * placing Icons in the black areas of a wall, do not keep one from painting over them and using the wall unfettered.*
