[Crash] [1.31] DX Error: Invalid Call

Just updated to patch 1.291, and 2 times have gotten a Crash to Desktop saying "DX Error: Invalid Call".
A tiny little white box with that text and an OK button appears, and the game crashes to desktop. (I am too quick-moused to get a screenshot of it ^_^)

earlier issues:

https://forums.stardock.com/435128

There was no zip file created in my "Program Data" folder as per "How to report an Issue"

3. If you have a crash, please check your ProgramData folder for a zip file which will be named something like FallenEnchantress0_75-2012-01-18T13-57-53-446.zip and post it using Dropbox (http://www.dropbox.com) or a similar service.

Edit: Still happening in 1.31

I blame your unit designs.

In all seriousness it may be that since you have duplicate unit designs to the ones that are now in the game it is causing an issue.  I had worried about that but I changed the internal name of all of them to try to keep that from happening.  Hmmm...

Could you try renaming your "My Games\Fallen Enchantress\" directory to "My Games\Fallen Enchantress.old" to see if it fixes it?

It's the craptitude of DirectX 9 and the UAC me thinks. I've gotten this error and it almost always happens when a security prompt comes up. Some video cards lose the device when this happens and it's not consistent.

We've wrestled with this from time to time going back to GalCiv I.

I deleted all my custom units when I patched ;)

Boo >_<

Meaby I should have added that I recently have had my graphics card changed (with a similar graphics card), silly things break on me.

Bump, still happening in 1.31, dunno what to do exactly (I did try Derek's solution)

Still no crash-zip

Edit: What do you mean with security prompt? I have no pop-ups in the background when it happens.
 - Also if you have any ideas as to where I might-meaby seek a solution please feel free to post.

Same problem. In whatever the latest steam version is. Is it 1.7 or something?

I know stardock loves windows for some reason, but maybe since this is a recurring problem you could start using OpenGL and maybe support other OS'?
