Stardrive - Sci-Fi 4X - For Those of You Waiting for Gal Civ 3!

Stardrive (www.stardrivegame.com)

For fans of Galactic Civilizations 1 and 2 and Masters of Orion 1 and 2:

The open beta will be on Steam very, very soon. It's the best sci-fi 4x game I've played since GC2 and before that, probably MOO2. It needs to be on your radar.

Come on, you've already got a thread you're actively promoting in the proper forum. This subforum is for kickstarter projects.

It is a kickstarter project/game. Back before kickstarter even became big: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1319847883/stardrive-a-4x-action-strategy-game-for-the-pc

I'm just trying to get this game an audience. I want it to succeed. This looks like the proper forum.

I stand corrected. I didn't have kickstarter on my radar back in 2011, so I didn't know.

I apologize, DevildogFF and promise to keep my eye out for the game!

No need to apologize. I AM kinda being a complete whore about this game ;)

  I missed the kickstarter just waiting on preorder to pop up. Resok says its good so that means its good for me.

How does this game compare to Endless Space? What's the difference besides bears and sharks in space?

its on my radar. I will buy if reviews (from users) are ok.

If you bought in during the alpha, will you be given a steam key or something?

We got Gal Civ 2, SotS 1, and 2, Endless Space, Star Ruler, Distant Worlds, Legends of Pegasus, Armada 2526, Gemini Wars, and SotSE. Plus a few other up, and comers....

You say this is like MOO 2. Hopefully not in the worst ways. I see graphics that are just "average" IMO. However eye candy alone doesn't make for a good game. What is so "different", or "unique" about this game? What makes this game stand out over all of the other 4x games that have flooded the market?

Is Legends of Pegasus even worth mentioning any more?

Let the buyer beware...?

Watched your let's play and it looks boring. It's realtime which would make me nervous of missing to do something.

My main complaint is that (just like in Gal Civ II) nothing happens!   Ships go back and forth between planets and you sign agreements but it seems like the game plays itself!   Clicking a planet and choosing colonize and it handles itself. You don't even have to select what to build!   I'm wary of that.

The coolest part was the meeting with other civilizations. Especially the Wulfen  }:)

I'm coming to the realization that macroheavy 4x games without tactical combat aren't for me.

LoP is worth mentioning because it was a very ambitious project that unfortunately failed miserably. Same can be said of the early builds of SoTS 2. However the patches are doing that game right. We got quite a few others that were "Meh". Like Armada 2526, and Endless Space.

Not saying i want to see Stardrive fail. Quite the opposite. I really hope you do succeed where others have failed. This genre does need a GOOD 4x game.

I've been in the closed beta for some time now and even if it had been released 4 months ago, it would have been in better shape than both SOTS2 and LOP. It's only now going to open beta and the developer has promised lots of awesome things before the "hard release", including mining, a news robot, and an awesome solution to the "end game".

It's truly special because it combines a lot of what was done right in other games rather seamlessly. Not to mention it has some of the prettiest diplomacy screens I've ever seen, has excellent and fun-to-watch ship combat, some of the best ship building this genre has ever seen, fun to watch ground combat, solid economy balancing and most of all, one of the most responsive and open developers of all time.

@Campaigner - Every game can't be every one's cup of tea, but I will say that the videos for this game still don't do it justice. It's no more "boring" than every other space-based 4X game. In face, with the pausable (and fast forwarding capabilities) real time nature of this game, it doesn't stay "boring" for very long. Not to mention, you can - and it is certainly advised once you figure things out - manually control everything. It's not like DW where un-automating things can be super daunting (it also doesn't have that same level of automation to begin with).

Picked it up yesterday. I am liking it so far. Parts of it remind me of GalCiv2 ie planet manager, me likey! I just have to get better at combat. So I'll watch Das's LP and Devil's old LPs.

There are several things directly from MOO II and that is not a bad thing. I just watched one episode on the net and saw The Bulrathi and The Hyperflux thingie (where you cannot travel fast)

I actually think StarDrive has quite decent and clean graphics. Depends what you mean by average, i could perhaps agree with average as in generic, but quality-wise i think its definitely one of the better ones. Better than Legend of Pegasus for example IMHO.

If you bought the game in it's alpha stage, I assume you get a steam key at some point?

I only want this if it has Space Bears!
