[1.20] [Bug] I'm not ON your smelly land

So the AI pops up a dialogue telling me to beat it or declare war.

But I'm not in his territory.  Nope.  Not one unit.

So I say 'Okay I'll get off your land, are you happy now?'

Several turns later he bugs me again about it.  This time he has a rake and he's waving it menacingly.

And I say, 'Seriously, I'm not on your lawn.'

And so on and so on.

There is a patch of land around an outpost which is lit up as though I should have line of sight from it, but it's not my outpost, it's his.

Try going onto the cloth map which will show all of your active units, and each faction's territorial lines.  this is the simplest way to check.

Alternatively, if you agree to leave, you will often find that your units are moved off enemy lands immediately.

And then you can always increase your trade with the other factions, or sign treaties with them, so they will cut them some slack and allow you into their territories - at least temporarily.

If you're just outside of their borders when they expand, they'll call you up and tell you to leave.  That's the risk you run of moving around along their borders.  Of course, if you're not near their territory when they call you up, that'll be a bug, and you should post a savegame of it happening.
