(Solved) My DesktopX won't run anymore

Well as of yesterday my DesktopX stopped working completely with the exception of widgets.  I had the latest Beta installed.

Steps I've taken:

1.  I cleared the DesktopX Theme Cache... no help.

2. I deinstalled using the programs de-installer and then re-installed.... no help.

3. I tried reverting to DesktopX 3.5.... no help.

4. I sent a ticket in to Stardock Support.

5. Today I tried Revo Pro including scanning for all traces of DesktopX I deleted everything in the Registry and Folders losing all my theme in the process hoping this would finally solve the problem.  I re-install and I re-activated DesktopX 4 Beta.

Result DesktopX Beta 4 will not run.  DesktopX Widgets still work.

So no DesktopX Themes for me. Problem Solved Now

Maybe re-dowloading the software after using Revo to clear everything out?  Maybe a reboot after installing it. Just guessing here.

See item number 5 above.  Already tried that.

Do you have anything running that would block scripts? Anything added lately in the way of security/AV? I know from time to time, DX stops working for RnD and he has to completely remove and re-install it to get it working again. I believe Philly, his other tester, has as well. I've never had the problem so I'm not much help but I'm sure he has a thing or two you can try.

He's at church atm, but I'll make sure he sees this post.

I use MSE and MalwareByte's Pro.  I tried turning malwareByte's pro off.

But something you said Wiz got me thinking.  Yesterday i was doing some system's maintenance and TuneUp Utilities 2011 said it found 2 problems with Windows Firewall and reset a couple things there.  I didn't check then what it reset.

I'll try looking at Windows Firewall next.

Edit.  So far not much there.  I created an Inbound Firwall Rule for it since so many of my programs have one but.. no luck.

Did a Windows Update cause this.

Yes I have had the problem and have found out that none of the programs mentioned will help.  The only program that seems to fix the problem when it occurs is to use the ondt.zapper removal tool.  I have it but I don't have a link for it.  Possibly one of the other members will be able to help.

As to the problem, I have no idea what causes it, just one day the shortcut I have for DesktopX will not work, running the zapper program and then reinstalling fixes it.

I missed church this morning due to a bad night, healthwise.

BDBF, I usually get this problem every month or two.

I usually have to uninstall DX with Revo, reboot, run a registry cleaner, (usually ASC Pro, or CCleaner, or both), reboot again, and then reinstall. I have done this at least 8 times last year. Works every time.

I have no idea what is borking it to begin with.

Finding the cause would make me happy.

Well some good news.  The ODNT Zapper did the trick.  And..

One thing I noticed was the DesktopX4_beta396 installer did not cause the UAC to prompt for permission to make changes on my computer when I just left clicked it to run.

This time I right clicked on the DesktopX4 Beta and chose run as Administartor and all is well.

By using the ODNT Zapper removal tool I didn't have to re-activate the install.  All is well again.

Let's hear it for these forums and the great Wincustomize community.

Thanks everyone.  All of you are why I really love this place and Stardock Support makes it easy for us to find self help for most issues. 5*

I have everything back to normal.

My DesktopX theme auto starts again and I'm happy once again.
