Member Rank

How To Tell.........

This thread is written to the powers that be, here on WC..

I noticed today that someone had posted something about a member here, but they had gotten the rank wrong. In trying to help with this, I noticed that there is really no way to be sure of what a member's rank is, for those who don't have sites. It's not on our profile pages.

So, in effect, there's really not much recognition for ranks less than Journeyman. What would be the point?

I'm certain this has been brought up before.

We have info under the avatars. Why not put the rank there too? Or on our profiles? Or on the dropdown you get when clicking on a member's name above the avatar?

Lotsa places to put it. Every member has a profile page. Seems this would be the best place.

Support avatars say support under the avatar. Mods too.

How hard would it be to get ranks shown?

We are a skinning community. Customizers abound. We PAY a fee/subscription. Why is it that WC looks so drab, yet GalCiv2, Elemental, Sins, all the gaming sites have a nice theme. We get blue/white/drab.

So, is it so much to ask to get some info on rank somehow connected to one's membership?

EDIT:  I'd much rather know a member's rank rather than their join date. (Especially since mine's so inaccurate.... :-" )

I kind of like the rankings unfortunately there is no specific criteria to use for one to monitor their progression, meaning there's an arbitrary factor of personalities that effect people's promotions. I know of three persons that had been passed over for promotions just because they pissed someone off.

I'm proud of my rank. It took 7 years to get there.

dang Jim you had to rub it in, I've been here for 10 years and am just a master apprentice. Oh, right, see above.

I know I still suck at skinning, but I am at my greatest level of suckiness yet, so I am improving, am I correct?

dt.... I was laughing at the first part of this sentence...not the "so I am improving, am I " part!! Just wanted to clarify, after I reread my post, it can be taken wrong!

I think a badge with the members rank is a good idea.  If I remember correctly, this was something that has been discussed before, but not sure of the decisions made.

It's apparent many here think this is valable information to be visable. You mentione that it has been discussed before but not sure of a decisions. Like with other things mentioned some won't care what decision is made and some will but there is never or very seldom any follow up to these discussions with a final answer. Even if the final result didn't make everyone happy I believe there should be one given to some of these questions. Some things asked just don't require any answer and just best to let die so to speak. Questions such as this I feel it would be nice to give an answer as to something like "We feel it's not neccesary to make this change" or "This is a qood suggestion and we are going to fix this situation"

You don't know that is why. Only the mods know why.

As RedneckDude said only the mod could answer that and it isn't going to happen in this thread.

Were those three persons doing or saying things on the site that may have been in violation of the TOS being the reason for calling attention to their selves?  :S

Um...I doubt that.

If someone is not promoted due to their "behavior", that individual person already knows it because usual either myself or Jafo (usually him) has had contact with that person.

You have implied in other threads that there is some personal vendetta against users who aren't promoted, and I can tell you with certain that is false.

I know I still suck at skinning,

Promotions are based on much more than just skinning ability.

If skinning ability was the only factor, I would not be a Master, trust me.

I’ve always thought promotions were based on the person overall. Are they progressing, are they active in the community, basically do they contribute to making WinCustomize a better place. I think attitude should play a part as it is a part of the person.

I hope they give us badges or whatever, I’m an apprentice and proud of it. I’ll work on getting promoted and when I’m ready it’ll happen but for me making apprentice was the big one, it meant I was accepted in the skinning community.

It's more about community and attitude than talent and that is a good thing.......... or I'd still be a Citizen.  :sun:

Spencer thank you for acknowledging the point that I was trying to make.

My thoughts about that is that as long as one does not violate the TOS agreement then their behavior is acceptable and should not be a negative part of the promotion process just because of disagreement.

He didn't validate your point.  "A person's behavior" and "pissed someone off" is not necessarily the same thing.

Wrong again.

If your behavior is enough that you have to be spoken to repeatedly, visitored, etc. that will affect things. The TOS might be the official legal site rules, but they don't cover everything.

You've been going on about this for a while. I'd leave the grand conspiracies alone with the tin foil hats.

I get that, honest.

Even the most frustratingly annoying...who had a penchant for inserting his foot every time a promotion was imminent managed to 'get it right' and make the grade.

No-one holds grudges...no-one is prejudiced.  If and when 'annoying' becomes 'disruptive' for the site/community as a whole and there is no sign of improvement the person is simply removed.

Even then there has been occasion where the removal was reversed.

Anyway....yes, the idea was mooted some time ago....but I believe it coincided with staff changes and was lost in transit...;)

What is this citizen term.

I am not looking for a promotion either, I am where I am, just curious why this term, Jafo mentioned it earlier to me in a different post.

That's good because you don't find a promotion, it finds you. ;)

Hi Fred!

I could swear we had those (JM, MA, Master...) at one point in the past.

I know we did back when you could change the site theme.....but it was sir & lady, etc

This here thread has gone kinda off topic, so I'd like to take a monent of silence to greive it's passing...........  x_x       *_*     :P

Seriously, I would like to point out that, Island Dog and Jafo amongst others, have agreed that something in the way of showing one's rank would be nice.

So, to the powers that be, whoever you are, please give us this small token.   :pout:
